Every Rule
Charli XCX Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Chemistry something like magic
You were with somebody else long term
And I was with somebody else as well
Met up late night by the bowery
And in the morning, we got coffee
Acting like strangers and told no friends
It wasn't easy to pretend
And we know that it's wrong, but it feels real fun
Sneakin' around, fallin' deep in love
But sometimes I get scared 'cause I know it's unfair
I'm hurtin' someone else instead
I'm breakin' every rule for you
You're breakin' every rule for me
I'm breakin' every rule for you
But I gotta say, I want it this way
These moments really set me free
Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Straight away, we started fallin'
Conversation never boring
When your lips brushed up against my skin
All I wanted was to let you in
I wonder if people will notice
Said you find it so hard to focus
Cigarettes up on the balcony
Wrapped up in nothin' but sheets
And we know that it's wrong, but it feels real fun
Sneakin' around, fallin' deep in love
But sometimes I get scared 'cause I know it's unfair
I'm hurtin' someone else instead
I'm breakin' every rule for you
You're breakin' every rule for me
I'm breakin' every rule for you
But I gotta say, I want it this way
These moments really set me free
Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Ah, ah

In "Every Rule," Charli XCX explores a forbidden love affair that is both thrilling and complicated. The song tells the story of two people who meet while they are both in committed relationships with other individuals. Despite knowing that their actions are morally wrong, they can't help but be drawn to each other's chemistry and connection. They find solace in their secret late-night rendezvous, pretending to be strangers in public and sharing intimate moments.

Definitely yes! I'm really looking forward to listening to the whole album
@visualhatefvck
@@jackphillips4305 what u mean... charli herself said this era is going to be her mainstream pop star era... she usually is more hyperpop or underground/experimental.
So this heavy mainstream side isn't something we see much of her... even though she was heavy mainstream in the beginning of her career but that's like a decade ago 😅
