Round & Round
Charli XCX & SOPHIE Lyrics

"Let's have a family"
In the front yard your note: "Oh
Don't you wait for me"
In the papers you wrote: "I'm
Free as free can be"
And your footprint, you left no legacy
Who you are, nobody knows
Funny air, blow over, blow over, blow over
Blow over
So unaware, fall over, fall over, fall over
In the backyard I sought a family
In the front yard, I wrote on theories
In the paper my note: "I will
I will for eternity"
Now my footprints: You are my legacy
Round and round and round you go
Who you are, nobody knows
Funny air, blow over, blow over, blow over
Blow over
Unaware, fall over, fall over, fall over
You were a shot in the head
When I thought I was home
And I keep throwing you up
So I won't be alone
And I still lead you around, claiming amends
And I wake you and make
You and break you again
The lyrics of "Round & Round" by Charli XCX & SOPHIE speak about the confusion and inconsistency that can exist within relationships. The song's opening lines describe two conflicting desires expressed by a partner. In the backyard they express a desire for a family, while in the front yard they leave a note saying "don't wait for me." The papers then reveal that the partner feels "free as free can be" and leaves no legacy with their footprint. The chorus repeats the idea that the partner is constantly going round and round and that their true self is unknown.
The second verse switches perspective to the singer who also seeks a family in the backyard, writes on theories in the front yard and declares eternal commitment in the papers. The singer now sees themselves as the one leaving a legacy. The chorus then repeats the idea that the partner is constantly spinning and the singer is confused and unable to understand who their partner truly is.
The final verse reveals that the partner was like a sudden, impactful surprise to the singer, and that the singer keeps bringing them up to avoid loneliness. The final line, "And I wake you and make You and break you again," reveals a cycle of bringing the partner into their life and then pushing them away.

Saw her play this at SXSW 2016 with Sophie, their first show together. Recorded only a few seconds on my phone... If only I knew what the future would hold. Incredible track

I like how this track has a mixture of the different sound bites from the XCX world era. This shows how Charli and Sophie likes to play around with pre-existing bite and tracks and make something completely new. It’s no wonder why Charli has a library of unreleased music.
@CaptainMauzer
A LOT of Sophie’s unreleased work samples their previous work, as if to say “I encapsulated this entire feeling in this track and now I’m gonna drop it in its entirety over here” but it’s just a sub, sub beat within a larger work. The depth and mastery Sophie had over the sonic space they created was truly next level shit.
