With a musical journey that has crisscrossed all kinds of rock music, folk music, and electronic music, he carries a songwriting sense that aims to capture dense images of life with God,
in compositions that can be carried with the listener. He aims to tell the old story of the Gospel in an ever-shifting world, without resorting to easy truisms, or lazy language. His new collection of songs, The Bright Sadness, echoes a journey pressed to the chest of God, joyful and sorrowful at once, with God's heart clear and pulsing in each note and word. It wraps liturgy with the unexpected, and daily mundanity with daily surprise.
As many of the Passion collegiate gatherings were recorded live, Hall was quickly dubbed "a voice" for the Passion movement, performing on all eight Passion albums, which have sold more than one million units.
Charlie expresses the desire to be "honed into God, where I'm not part of a culture where I'm trying to make the people around me think, 'Hey, that's a good Christian.' I'm just trying to pursue God and not pursue being accepted into a club...I'm more honed into my pursuit of God in Christ and how he's forming me and changing and helping me love him and know him.
Renewing and encouraging local churches, engaging young and old with social justice action, widening hearts to see God at work in the whole world, spurring local artists on to imaginative and creative expression, and offering songs of rest to those who are simply tired are some of the hopes of Charlie, and his band of gypsies. Hall's band, in which he performs vocals and guitar, consists of Kendall Combes (electric guitar), Brian Bergman (keyboard), Dustin Ragland (drums), and Quint Anderson (bass guitar).

King of heaven come down
Oh, oh
King of heaven come down
Oh, oh
We come together in the wave of God
We stand together in Your great compassion
Fill us up with an expectation
Oh, oh
King of heaven come down
Oh, oh
We'll sing the gospel to the poor
We'll go to comfort those who mourn
You'll put together what's been torn
King of heaven
We come together in the wave of God
We stand together in Your great compassion
Pouring out our hearts and lives
Fill us up with an expectation
Oh, oh
King of heaven come down
Oh, oh
We'll sing the news of hope, Your grace
We'll help the brokenhearted praise
You'll put Your glory on display
King of heaven
You help the broken cities rise
(You help the broken cities rise)
Out of the wreckage You bring life
(Out of the wreckage You bring life)
You help the broken cities rise
(You help the broken cities rise)
Out of the wreckage You bring life
(You bring life)
We'll sing the gospel to the poor
We'll go to comfort those who mourn
You'll put together what's been torn
King of heaven
We'll sing the news of hope, Your grace
We'll help the brokenhearted praise
You'll put Your glory on display
King of heaven
Oh King of heaven
The song "King of Heaven" by Charlie Hall is a worship song that is centered around the concept of God’s kingdom and the role that Christians play in it. The song opens with a plea for the “King of heaven” to come down, which reflects the desire of Christians to be closer to God, to feel His presence, and to experience His power in their lives.
The song then moves into a call for unity among believers, emphasizing the importance of standing together in godly compassion and pouring out our hearts in worship. The chorus repeats the opening plea for God to come down, emphasizing the urgency and earnestness behind our desire for His presence. The second half of the verse then focuses on our role as Christians to share the gospel, comfort those who mourn, and help bring healing and restoration to a broken world.
The bridge of the song continues with the theme of brokenness and restoration, proclaiming that God is able to make broken cities rise and bring life out of wreckage. The song then returns to its central focus on worship and proclamation, exhorting us to sing the gospel, help the brokenhearted praise, and put God’s glory on display. Overall, the song is a powerful call to action for Christians to both seek God’s presence and participate in His kingdom work.
