With a musical journey that has crisscrossed all kinds of rock music, folk music, and electronic music, he carries a songwriting sense that aims to capture dense images of life with God,
in compositions that can be carried with the listener. He aims to tell the old story of the Gospel in an ever-shifting world, without resorting to easy truisms, or lazy language. His new collection of songs, The Bright Sadness, echoes a journey pressed to the chest of God, joyful and sorrowful at once, with God's heart clear and pulsing in each note and word. It wraps liturgy with the unexpected, and daily mundanity with daily surprise.
As many of the Passion collegiate gatherings were recorded live, Hall was quickly dubbed "a voice" for the Passion movement, performing on all eight Passion albums, which have sold more than one million units.
Charlie expresses the desire to be "honed into God, where I'm not part of a culture where I'm trying to make the people around me think, 'Hey, that's a good Christian.' I'm just trying to pursue God and not pursue being accepted into a club...I'm more honed into my pursuit of God in Christ and how he's forming me and changing and helping me love him and know him.
Renewing and encouraging local churches, engaging young and old with social justice action, widening hearts to see God at work in the whole world, spurring local artists on to imaginative and creative expression, and offering songs of rest to those who are simply tired are some of the hopes of Charlie, and his band of gypsies. Hall's band, in which he performs vocals and guitar, consists of Kendall Combes (electric guitar), Brian Bergman (keyboard), Dustin Ragland (drums), and Quint Anderson (bass guitar).

I've heard upon this earth
Speaks righteousness for me and stands in my defense
Jesus it's Your blood
Your blood speaks a better word than all the empty claims
I've heard upon this earth
Speaks righteousness for me and stands in my defense
What can wash away our sins?
And what can make us whole again?
Nothing but the blood
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
And what can wash us pure as snow?
Welcomed as the friends of God
Nothing but Your blood
Nothing but Your blood King Jesus, King Jesus
Your cross
Your cross testifies in grace
Tells of the Father's heart to make a way for us
Now boldly we approach
Not earthly confidence, it's only by Your blood
What can wash away our sins?
What can make us whole again?
Nothing but the blood
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can wash us pure as snow?
Welcomed as the friends of God
Nothing but Your blood
Oh, nothing but Your blood King Jesus
Oh, King Jesus, King Jesus
Redeemed, renewed
Made whole, freed, restored
You have life
Made all clean
The song "Nothing But the Blood" by Charlie Hall is a powerful anthem that speaks about the transformative power of Jesus' blood. The opening lyrics suggest that there are many empty claims and promises in the world, but none of them can compare to the power of Jesus' blood. The blood of Christ speaks a better word that stands in our defense and testifies to our righteousness. It is only through the blood of Jesus that we can be redeemed, made whole, and restored.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Nothing but the blood" multiple times, emphasizing the idea that nothing else can wash away our sins or make us pure as snow. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross is the only way to approach God with confidence and be welcomed as His friends. The second verse speaks of the cross as a testimony of God's grace, as it made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through the sacrifice of His Son. The bridge of the song emphasizes the freedom and new life that we have through Jesus' blood, as we are renewed and made clean.
Overall, this song emphasizes the centrality of Jesus' blood in the Christian faith and the idea that there is no other way to be saved or made whole. It also emphasizes the idea that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was an act of grace, making a way for sinners to be reconciled to God.
