I am totally addicted to Charly Poole in general and to that song in particulary

William Smith

We lived on Riverside Drive and my Grandpa Nichols worked in the Spray cotton mill with Charlie. My mother said Charlie would come and visit and play his banjo on the front porch. There is a Charlie Poole Monument just up from the Smith River in what we used to call north Spray. Eden now. I have my photo taken at the monument every time I go home. Lots of memories there. Mostly bad. We were on welfare most of the time. I changed schools 9 times in 10 years. Charlie never got the credit he deserved for writing almost a hundred songs.

This song is interesting cause the hospital i was born at was once a family owned farm estate that was torn down in the 80s...theres only one or two pics of what it used to be in the hospital itself...so i now actually know that a farm that used to be there is literally in the ground...except the fact that they built a memorial for it using some of the frames of it

Sure thing, this song is a classic.

It is a wonderful piece of music. I don't believe I have ever heard of Kenny Baker. Who is he?

Thomas .Hennessey

Recorded for Columbia, in NY May 7, 1929 Charlie Poole bj-vcl; Lonnie Austin, fiddle; Roy Harvey,g. Fine tune

Steve Harrison

Methinks that's Posey Rorer of fiddle in this pic.
