Down Down Down
Charlie Simpson Lyrics

trying to shove their names
how am i supposed to know where to run?
but i don't know who's to blame
and i give people something along the way
is it ok to be afraid of love if you don't understand it?
and the nights are so long without you
my god i'll never let go of you now
cause some things are not worth changing
my heart swells to the size of an orchid
it takes the rest of my heart with it
going down down down…
but i'm never going back home
we've sent people into space without even really knowing
if there ever gonna come back down
and there are people asking
just where i am,
is it ok to be afraid of hope if you don't know how to keep it?
and the nights are so long without you
and the days speed up,
my god i just can't lose you now
but things are about to change
my heart swells to the size of an orchid
it takes the rest of my heart with it
going down down down…
but i'm neverrrrr going back home
if people on earth could just get together
then maybe we could find a place for each other
if people on earth could just stand together
then maybe we could find a place for each other
if people on earth could just get together again
maybe we could find a place for each other
if people on earth could just get together again
maybe we could find a place for each other now…
In Charlie Simpson’s song “Down Down Down”, the lyrical theme explores feelings of confusion, insecurity, and the challenges of trying to navigate life’s inherent uncertainties. The opening lines introduce the idea of too many people in the world, all vying for recognition and attention. The singer struggles to find direction amidst this overwhelming conflux of individuals, wondering how to know where to run. The singer acknowledges that he does not know who to blame for this situation, but he tries to give people something along the way while expressing a fear of love and admitting that he doesn't understand it.
The chorus focuses on the singer's feelings of loneliness, and the struggle to let go of someone he cares about. The nights without that special someone feel elongated, while the days speed by, highlighting the pain of separation. The singer acknowledges that certain things are not worth changing, indicating the depth of his feelings for this person.
Throughout the song, the singer uses a metaphor of his heart swelling to the size of an orchid, suggesting that his emotions are powerful, yet fragile. This image is reinforced by the lyrics, "it takes the rest of my heart with it, going down down down," indicating that these intense feelings could take him on a journey of self-discovery and potential heartbreak.

Theres only one man that can go from a pop band to a rock/metal band to an acoustic folk band and make it work..and that ladies and gentlemen is Charlie Simpson...He's a f*cking genious and inspiration to us all. And this is a beautiful tune...Can't wait for the album!

I discovered Charlie Simpson just last week. I read up on him and was astonished to find that he had been in the band 'Busted'. I'm from Canada, so forgive me for my ignorance when it comes to UK artists & bands. I honestly thought that this guy had always done this type of music. Denying that this guy is stellar in both writing and vocals aspects is just simply oblivious and ignorant. I can't believe people are bashing him. He's a real great listen. Love the soul this guy has in his songs.

same here! I'm from Canada as well, and heard about him recently and love his music... its funny because i was obsessed with Busted when I was 12 and had a pretty long laugh when I found out it was the same guy.. (clearly my music taste has changed plenty of years later thank goodness)

I agree with you. I'm from the UK so knew vaguely about it all but I was only about 6-7 when busted broke up. The reason people bash him is coz he left Busted to go to fightstar and that caused the Band to end. I think they're stupid for doing so as it's obvious that he didn't like being in busted and he left to join a much better band.
