Ever After
Charlotte Lawrence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We count our footprints in the sand
and follow lines upon our hands
like rivers carve their way through land
to where we are... to where we are.

A perfect story has an end.
A perfect storm, a perfect wind.
To carry us back home again
to where we are... to where we are.

If forever ever after, this is not goodbye.
If forever ever after, this is not goodbye.

If forever ever after, this is not goodbye.
If forever ever after, this is not goodbye.

Overall Meaning

In the song "Ever After", Charlotte Lawrence uses evocative imagery to create a dreamy, nostalgic atmosphere. The first two lines describe a practice common to many beach-goers: counting footprints in the sand. This simple act becomes something more profound as the song progresses, becoming a metaphor for the way we trace our journeys through life. Similarly, the following lines about tracking lines on our hands suggest that we are all following a predetermined path, carved out like a river through the landscape. Despite our best efforts to resist, we will ultimately end up where we are meant to be.

The chorus of the song brings those themes together, suggesting that there is a grand design to our lives. No matter what happens, we are always headed towards our ultimate destination: "If forever ever after, this is not goodbye." The repetition of this line lends the song a sense of reassurance and comfort, as if Lawrence is telling her listeners that everything happens for a reason, and that there is always a grander plan at work.

Overall, "Ever After" is a wistful, introspective song that encourages its listeners to embrace the journey that they are on. Its gentle, hypnotic melody and Lawrence's ethereal vocals make for a captivating listening experience that will resonate with anyone who has ever tried to make sense of their place in the world.

Hi Cougar Town fans!
We need a fandom name.... Or is there already one? I don't know, sorry I literally just finished Cougar Town a few hours ago, so I will now complete my ritual that I do every time I finish a show:
1) Rewatch the finale ✔️
2) Watch interviews with the cast ✔️
3) Watch Bloopers and Behind the Scenes ✔️
4) Cry to the song used in the last scene
5) Find their social media (Instagram/Twitter/TikTok if they have it)
6) Binge watch the every episode
7) Become a walking Biography for the cast
8) Gain encyclopedic knowledge for the show
(So far I've done this with FRIENDS, The Middle and Modern Family, and I will now complete this list with Cougar Town)
Edit: I have now completed 4&5 and will have to Binge watch around school hours 😒
Also, this and Embryonic Journey by Jefferson Airplane make an awesome crying playlist for friends + cougar town fans

This song is absolutely stunning I can't stop listening to it. Cougar Town is an incredible show and I cried so much at the end. The ending of the showing was so refreshing as nothing truly terrible happened they all still live in the Cul De Sac and everyone got a happy ending that they deserved 🥺🥺
Such a stunning and refreshing end to a show I've never seen a finale so amazing and a finale that left me lost that the show has ended but happy at how they were happy with their lives were. ❤️❤️
