2) The shortlived Atlanta based grind outfit Charmer unleashes sheer visceral madness. Trimming down to merely a vocalist, guitarist, and drummer, their sole release has been a self-titled 7" (of which only 150 were pressed and all were sold on Charmer's most recent tour). Due to the damage caused by their furious live shows, the members have done a helluva job keeping their identities more or less a secret, having been known to perform adorned in gas masks and under many different aliases.
Since the band's break-up, guitarist "Emmerson Longfellow" and vocalist "Pelham Winchester" began writing under the guies of End Life (http://myspace.com/endfuckinglife).
Slumber
Charmer Lyrics

Maybe I should talk to you
Drowning in your heated pool
Somewhere between death and missing you
Slumber
Through the summer
Enjoy your Ivy League hell
Where I thought I'd be now
Will we last the cold?
Cherish the raindrops on your window
I'll learn to let this go
Until I fold
Slumber
Through the summer
Enjoy your Ivy League hell
Wondered when I was younger
Where I thought I'd be now
Will we last the cold?
Cherish the raindrops on your window
I'll learn to let this go
Until I fold
In Charmer's song "Slumber," the lyrics focus on deep introspection and a sense of longing for a life that could have been. The opening lines discuss the idea of going to grad school and the singer's need to speak to someone. The next lines, "Drowning in your heated pool, somewhere between death and missing you," create a beautiful visual imagery that suggests the singer feels lost and alone. The next part of the song talks about slumber, which could be interpreted as the singer sleeping through life's opportunities and not experiencing everything fully. The line "enjoy your Ivy League hell" suggests academic pressure and tight competition that are prevalent in Ivy League schools. The singer then thinks about past expectations, "where I thought I'd be now," which highlights the feeling of not living up to one's own expectations.
The chorus is a repetition of "Slumber through the summer, enjoy your Ivy League hell, wondered where I was younger, where I thought I'd be now." Here, the lyrics are discussing the repetitive nature of life, where one can get stuck in a cycle and miss out on opportunities. The following lines "Will we last the cold? Cherish the raindrops on your window," are open to interpretation, but it could suggest the singer's questions about whether their relationship(s) can stand the test of time. The final line, "I'll learn to let this go until I fold," suggests the sense of powerlessness and resignation that can come with acceptance.
Overall, the song Slumber by Charmer is a beautiful and introspective piece of music that speaks to feelings of loss and resignation. The lyrics are personal and poetic, and the imagery created by the words is vivid and powerful.
