Walking
Che & Ray Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just walking in the rain
Getting soaking wet
Torturing my heart by trying to forget

Just walking in the rain
So alone and blue
All because my heart still remembers you
People come to windows
They always stare at me
Shake their heads in sorrow
Saying, who can that fool be

Just walking in the rain
Thinking how we met
Knowing things could change
Somehow I can't forget

(Just walking in the rain)
(Walking in the rain)
(Walking in the rain)
(Just walking in the rain, all day I)

People come to the windows
They always stare at me
Their shaking their heads in sorrow
Saying, who can that fool be
(Now who can he be)

Just walking in the rain
(Walking in the rain)
Thinking how we met
(Walking in the rain)
Knowing things have changed
(Walking in the rain)

Somehow I can't forget
(Walking in the rain)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Che & Ray's "Walking in the Rain" speak about a person who is walking alone in the rain, reflecting on a past love and struggling to forget their memories. The rain acts as a physical representation of the emotional turmoil the person is going through.

In the first verse, the singer describes how they are getting soaking wet while walking in the rain. This could symbolize the pain they are experiencing as they try to wash away the memories of their past relationship. The rain becomes a torment, causing their heart to ache even more as they desperately attempt to forget.

The second verse reveals that the singer feels extremely lonely and depressed. The rain intensifies their feelings of loneliness and sadness, enveloping them in a blue mood. Despite their efforts to move on, their heart still holds on to the memories of their ex-lover. The rain emphasizes their melancholy and amplifies the emotional weight they carry.

The third paragraph introduces the perspective of the outside world. People in buildings look out of the windows and observe the singer walking in the rain, feeling sorry for them. The onlookers see the singer as a fool for continuing to walk in the rain, not realizing the depth of their heartbreak and the struggle to let go. This highlights the disconnect between the surface appearance of the singer and the turmoil within.

The final verse repeats the themes of the previous verses. The singer continues to walk in the rain, reminiscing about how they first met their former partner. They are aware that things have changed, but despite this knowledge, they still cannot forget the memories they shared. The rain becomes a metaphor for the constant reminder of their past, making it difficult for them to move on.

Overall, "Walking in the Rain" is a poignant expression of heartache, loneliness, and the struggle to overcome a lost love. The rain serves as a powerful symbol throughout the song, representing the emotional turmoil and the longing to forget. Despite the world around them, the singer remains caught in the rain as they grapple with their memories and the difficulty of moving on.

Thanks for the upload, nice clip! I'd love to download that song on iTunes. Meanwhile, I should listen once again to the 'Zurich Session' LP my father bought many years ago. However, I think that "Heavenly Club" by the Sauterelles is widely regarded as the first Swiss music video.
