The current lineup consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Clementine Creevy, bassist Devin O'Brien and drummer Tabor Allen. The band's sound has transitioned from lo-fi, garage-rock in their debut release Haxel Princess in 2014, to a more polished rock sound, with elements of grunge punk and new wave, in their sophomore release Apocalipstick in 2017.
The band has undergone a number of lineup changes since its inception. In 2015, Hannah Uribe left the band in pursuit of other artistic projects. In 2015, Cherry Glazerr saw the addition of two new musicians: multi-instrumentalist Sasami Ashworth on synths, who was invited to join the band by Sean Redman, and drummer Tabor Allen, who was subsequently invited to join the band by Ashworth. In mid-2016, and after participating in the recording of Apocalipstick, Redman departed and became a full-time member of his other band The Buttertones. He was replaced by bassist Devin O'Brien in 2017. In January 2018, Cherry Glazerr announced that Sasami Ashworth had left the band in order to concentrate on her own musical projects.
In November 2018, Cherry Glazerr announced their new album Stuffed & Ready. It was released on February 1, 2019.
Nurse Ratched
Cherry Glazerr Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
you're so cold master where do i begin?
your face like porcelain on his heart string
oh so thin
your eyes like daggers burn thru his skin
you're so cold master where do i begin
she's a wild one next to me
she's a wild one, she's a wild one in a land that's supposedly free
supposedly me
oh oh hoo oh oh hoo
your face like porcelain on his heart string
oh so thin
your eyes like daggers burn thru his skin
you're so cold master where do i begin
The lyrics to Cherry Glazerr's song Nurse Ratched paint a picture of a relationship that is toxic and damaging. The singer of the song is addressing their partner, whom they refer to as "master." The first two lines of the song are particularly powerful in their description of the partner's piercing stare: "your eyes like daggers burn thru his skin, you're so cold master where do i begin?" The use of the word "master" implies that the partner is controlling and dominant, and the singer feels powerless in the relationship. The second verse suggests that the partner is physically delicate, with a thin, porcelain face that is on "his heart string." Despite this fragility, though, the partner's gaze is still overpowering and menacing.
The chorus of the song brings in a broader political commentary, with the line "in a land that's supposedly free, supposedly me." Here, the singer is acknowledging the contradiction between the notion of living in a free country and the reality of being trapped in an unhealthy relationship. The use of the word "supposedly" suggests that the singer is disillusioned with the idea of freedom and feels trapped in their situation.
Overall, Nurse Ratched is a powerful indictment of toxic relationships and the damaging effects they can have on individuals. The lyrics are poignant and evocative, and the political commentary in the chorus adds an extra layer of depth to the song.
