Go Away
Chesnutt Mark Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was hoping you'd be gone
Tonight when I got home
What are you still waiting for
You're probably thinking that
She won't like it where's she's at
And she'll come knocking on my door
I used to believe that too
But I don't anymore

[Chorus]
So go away, blues don't hang around
She's gone, let me love again somehow
I've tried, but I could not make her stay
So be like her and go away

Well, here we are again
My old foul-weather friend
Not much left to talk about
We've cried and shared some laughs
Reminiscing this and that
But it all seems so tiresome now
You've been good company
But you wore your welcome thin

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chesnutt Mark's song "Go Away" convey the singer's desire for the blues to leave his life after a failed relationship. The singer expresses his disappointment that the person he was hoping would be gone is still present when he returns home. It is implied that this person is the personification of the "blues" or feelings of sadness and melancholy. The singer acknowledges the thought that his former partner might come back, but states that he no longer believes it.

In the chorus, the singer directly addresses the blues, telling them to "go away" and not to hang around. He acknowledges that his ex-partner has left, and he wants to find love again. The singer has made efforts to make his partner stay, but they were unsuccessful. Therefore, he urges the blues to be like his ex-partner and leave him alone, allowing him to start afresh.

In the second verse, the singer refers to the blues as an old "foul-weather friend." Although they have shared their emotions and reminisced together, it has become tiresome. The company of the blues has worn thin, indicating the singer's growing exhaustion with the sadness and negativity they bring into his life.

Overall, "Go Away" reflects the singer's yearning to let go of the blues and move on from a failed relationship. The song explores themes of resilience, acceptance, and the desire for new beginnings.

This is true country music. It’s got a healthy dose of steel guitar. Totally awesome. The way it’s supposed to be

I don't even know why a Steel Guitar matters, but I have a Theory, I guess the New Country with Electric Guitars, seems like it Drowns out the Lyrics, I can't hear, as well at 54, 55 this month, but I know it isn't just me . I Hate New Country Music, Like I Hate Soccer ! New Country Music, is Like some Rap, and Hip-hop, with no real Country. I think Old Country was taken out on purpose, it is sort of like a Murder, like those Great Philosophers George Strait, and Alan Jackson once said. 🙏

@rosannawierzbicki4386

damn right, I'm German, but I love that "southern drawl"

@codyschnuriger6743

New ‘country’ is not true country.

Steel guitar must be too difficult for these new technologically enhanced ‘country’ music productions.

I actually Really don't like, too much any other song he has, about 2, or 3 more, kinda like Charlie Pride, Kiss an Angel Good Morning, The rest didn't sound good, Didn't fit, Anybody going to San Antone ? Kinda of not Catchy. Charlie Pride was Awesome, and so is Mark Chesnutt. 👍♥️🙏

@mr.wizard2974

What I liked about Mark was that the songs he recorded didn't have a lot of extra crap from the recording engineer. You actually got to hear his true voice...and what a voice!

@HH-vw3oe

One of the best country voices ever!

@raywilcowski1478
