Together with Owen Bradley, Atkins created the smoother country music style known as the Nashville sound, which expanded country music's appeal to include adult pop music fans as well. His virtuoso picking style - inspired by Merle Travis, Django Reinhardt, George Barnes and Les Paul - brought him admirers both within and outside the country scene. Atkins produced records for Eddy Arnold, Don Gibson, Jim Reeves, Jerry Reed, Connie Smith, and Waylon Jennings.

The part at 1:23 is the work of a pure genious. Notice how he emphasizes the melody notes and mutes the bass and all in between picks flawless arpeggios with some other fingers, and then uses his pinky to use the bigsby. Unbelievable. How did he do it? I will never know.

I have the album they made together........to me Hank Snows style of playing was so much better than Atkins.......to me the best song Chet Atkins was not an instrumental at all, instead it was Atkins singing about his Dad as he remembered him and how he tried to be like him....a great song and perfectly done by Atkins.

This record, along with flip side Old Spinning Wheel changed my life. Recorded in 1954, my mother brought home a used copy in 1958 she bought for two bits. I flipped.

Fortunately for me I got this song on the album "Chet Atkins a Master and his music" from RCA. I live in Denmark, and it is available there. I love this song which I first heard in Denmark and thought it was an original danish song, but I found out that it has been translated into a wellknown danish tune celebrating a danish brand of beers.

You are right my friend, the studio executives at RCA in New York don't know Shit, but the folks over in West Germany At Bear Family Records have included this song as well as all the other, Hank Snow Chet Atkins duets! They can be found on "Hank Snow the singing Ranger" Volumes 2 and 3. The CD box sets are little pricey, but are well worth the money!

To daffydoug- This was not written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston. They wrote "Silver Bells"- the classic Christmas song( "City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style"). This "Silver Bell" song by Chet and Hank was written by Edward Madden( lyrics) and Percy Weinrich( music).
The song was written in 1910. Chet and Hank's version was recorded in 1954 and went to #14
on the Country Charts.

This was done on a duet album with Snow, so you might be able to find it under his name as opposed to Chet's.

hey daffy i always enjoy the post you make of chet , i hear many cuts i havent before heard . thankyou . reading in the header of this post i am a little confused . so i thought i would ask if there was a simply mistake in the typeing or wording ((Hint folks, you can almost count Chet's officialy released albums on the fingers of one hand.) This song's writing credits are incorrect: the song is from 1910, by Edward Madden and Percy Weinrich. The Ray Evans, Jay Livingston credit would be accurate if this were the Christmas song "Silver Bells", which it is not.

glad too Jimmy Anderson....I consider Chet Atkins guitar playing as excellent,....however it does in a way get boring and my opinion is different from yours, I do not consider Atkins as the best ever, not even close...the best I saw in person was Arthur Smith.....men like Hank Snow, Waylon Jennings , and Roy Clark were good, but they too were probably not the best in the world......some like Stevie Ray Vaughn, not me, except for his one song, Pride and Joy, I do not like his music at all.......to sum it up in simple terms, it is an opinion as is yours.....that is the best explanation I have.
