Hot Streets
Chicago Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hot streets down below me
All the people moving slowly
As they search each other's faces
For a trace of hope
Concealed beneath their laughter
And it's only love they're after

Mountains lie before me
Skies ahead are looking stormy
As the highway driver braces
For a race with time
To reach a destination
Of his own imagination

A child of the sky
A rider on the wind
I can fly
A prisoner of time
A dimensional crime
Lost am I

Winter stars above me
With a woman who can love me
And moonlight swept embraces
Fill my space with joy and peace

The sweet vibrations
Of a lover's celebration

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Chicago's song "Hot Streets" tell a story of a journey wherein the singer observes the world through the window of a vehicle they're travelling in. The singer sees people moving slowly on the hot streets and searching for a glimmer of hope in each other's faces. Despite the laughter, they are all looking for love. The singer sees mountains, and the skies ahead suggest that there is a storm coming. The driver of the vehicle is racing against time to reach their destination, which is simply a product of their imagination - craved, but unknown.

The singer is a "child of the sky" - undaunted, they ride the wind and can fly. But they are also a prisoner of time, victimized by a crime of the dimensions. They are lost in trying to navigate life's journey. The journey takes a turn as the singer finds himself amidst winter stars in the company of a loving woman who fills his space with joy and peace. They embrace under the moonlight, and the sweet vibrations of their celebration are in the air.

Overall, "Hot Streets" is a poetic reflection on the uncertainties and yearnings of the human experience. It explores the transient nature of things, the pursuit of love, and the struggle to create a purpose in life.

on Oh, Thank You Great Spirit

Great song and a fitting tribute to Jimi from his friend and fan Terry Kath, I've all ways believed the song was kind of a prospective of the dead, coming to the realization that they have crossed over and or no longer burden by all of life's problem's and pain's and are now free from all, and now overcome with gratitude to the Great Spirit , Greater of the universe and of life , GOD, that he is now free to fly the heavenly sky's , but ether way death or just a good night's sleep, great song.
