“Everyone, everyone!
Get down, baby, get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, high”
Gambino is in a dangerous situation and he urges other nearby to "get down" while he lobs missiles at those attempting to quell the riot.
Most of the songs on Awaken, My Love! call back the sounds and themes of funk music pioneers Sly Stone and George Clinton. Indeed, when titling this cut it could be assumed that Gambino had the 1971 Sly & the Family Stone album There's a Riot Goin' On in mind.
This contains the only sample on Awaken, My Love! lifting the groove from Funkadelic's "Good to Your Earhole."
Funkadelic leader George Clinton told HipHopDX.com he was thrilled that Gambino was keeping his P-Funk music alive.
"I just heard it one time, and I like the songs," he said. "I'm aware of his music and know he's into P-Funk so I know it's going to be some good music. I haven't had a chance to get all the way into it. When I did hear it, it sounded like a cross between P-Funk and Prince influence. I'm proud that he's into the funk and glad him and others are bringing some new funk back."

Deep inside my body
I've been watching all this all night
I got to move it
This pressure brewing
This world don't feel alright
Everyone, everyone!Get down, baby, get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, high
Everyone, everyone!
Get down, baby, get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, son
No good fighting
World, we're out of captains
Everyone just wants a better life
They tried to kill us
Love to say they feel us
But they won't take my pride
Everyone, everyone!
Get down, baby, get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, high
Everyone, everyone!
Get down, baby, get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, son
Everyone
Get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, high
Everyone
Get down, baby
Fly, fly, fly, son
The lyrics of "Riot" by Childish Gambino delve into the idea of rising up and taking action in the face of societal pressure and oppression. The song seems to allude to a feeling of unrest and unease, with the singer feeling a pressure building inside him that signifies that something is not going right. He expresses a desire to move and do something about it, to take action against the forces that are not making the world feel right.
The chorus of the song is a call to action urging people to get down and fly. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for getting down in the sense of grounding oneself and preparing for action and then flying as the act of taking charge and making things happen. The repetition of these lines emphasizes their importance and urgency.
The second verse of the song touches on the notion that the world is lacking proper leadership and we are essentially on our own. The singer suggests that everyone wants a better life, including himself, but the world is not providing it. He also mentions that there have been attempts to silence him and his voice. He refuses to let his pride be taken away and instead chooses to stand his ground and rise up against the oppressors.
Overall, "Riot" is a powerful song that touches on themes of oppression, unrest, and taking action against the status quo. It urges people to get up, get moving, and fight for a better world.

I'm glad to see Childish Gambino and other artists like Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator expose the people in my generation to Funk. The song used here is Funkadelic's Good to Your Earhole. This proves that Funk is NOT dead and if anything, it's making a return.
