Calm Down
Chris & James Lyrics

Listen to the waves now
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves now
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down uh
Cause I’ve been my own
I’ve been in my zone
I don’t need a bae
Needed time to grow
Had to be alone
We had to separate
Uh
But for me it’s still love and peace
Peace signs till I black out
Did some things I wish I could erase
But our lives don’t come with white out
Conversations and she call me Tae
Now everybody caught up to the name
Learning that I haven’t been the same
Want a drink so I can ease the pain
But I don’t drink and I don’t wanna do it
Cause I see my hurt is the real influence
Going through it I know it ain’t what it seems
And I’m busy striving for better things
You can’t knock the hustle I’ve been on the come up making these songs going hella broke
You don’t know the struggle I face I’ve been running my race but I’m nowhere near winning toast
Always there when I am needed I won’t be defeated when I’m close to giving up
I got some people that I can trust
I’m calming down and now that’s a plus
Listen to the waves now
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves now
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down

Listen to the waves try to calm down
Listen to the waves try to calm down uh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Chris & James's song "Calm Down" convey the importance of taking time to slow down and find peace in the midst of life's challenges. The repetition of "Listen to the waves now" is a metaphor for finding solace in the calming and rhythmic sound of the waves of the ocean. The singer acknowledges that they have been in their own zone and needed time to grow individually, even if that meant separating from someone they love. Despite this, the singer still values their past relationship and strives to maintain peace and love in their life.

The lyrics also touch on personal struggles and the desire to cope with them in healthy ways. The reference to "learning that I haven't been the same" suggests that the singer has gone through personal growth and change that has impacted their relationships and behavior. They express a desire to ease the pain they feel, but recognize that drinking alcohol is not a healthy coping mechanism for them. The final line, "I'm calming down and now that's a plus," emphasizes the importance of finding peace and taking steps towards personal growth and healing.

Overall, "Calm Down" encourages listeners to take a moment to find peace and calmness in their lives, even amidst personal struggles and challenges.

90’s dance music is the soundtrack to my life. I started listening in ‘94 and still am now in 2021!

@Sweetheartivy IvyHerbert Yes, but mainly when I was a teen, up until my mid-20’s.

Great tune, great label and the best of times! So lucky to have experienced the age of modern clubbing in its youth and naivety.

Spot on. Early 90s were great, Shelley's and The Eclipse Coventry then Renaissance Venue 44, Wobble, Miss Moneypennys, Golden, Pimp, Venus, Que Club, Cream, Swoon, Love To Be, The Arches in Glasgow, I could go on and on. Youth of today will never understand

be thankful that it hit us at just the right time in our lives, and that's ours, and no ones else's.No matter how much you try to explain to the subsequent generations, they'll never understand...but that makes it even more special for us. They wait to wait a year each time for their favourite festival, we had to wait at worse 6 days to go to our clubs! Sweaty and dark as they where, it was a beautiful time. Also glad we didn't have phones/cameras to film it, because we'd have missed the times we had talking and dancing to everyone in the clubs.
