You Were Talkin To Your Best Friend
And She Mentioned
There Was Someone, A Gentleman
Who Was Trying His Best To Extend
An Invitation
If You Get To Know Me
Baby No Strings
I Know It Seems Like I'm Comin Off Strong
I Hope You Don't Mind Spendin Time
Jus t You And Me (Just You And Me)
I Know You Will Have A Good Time
That Somebody Was Me
I'm The One That Called You Up
With The Blocked ID For A Week
See I Was Holding Back My Feeling
Wasn't Sure How You Would Respond To Me
It Was Me Girl
Girl I Bet You Remember When
You Went Out With Your Girls Clubbin
And Dancin Yeah
You Glanced At A Gentleman
I Got Your Number From Your Girlfriends
They Said You Was Wrong
If You Get To Know Me
Baby It'll Be A Really Good Thing
Baby No Strings
I Know It Seems Like I'm Comin Off Strong
I Hope You Don't Mind Spendin Time
Just You And Me (Just You And Me)
I Know You Will Have A Good Time

The lyrics to Chris Brown's song "That Somebody Was Me" tell the story of a person reminiscing about a time when they reached out to their love interest through various means. The song begins by mentioning a conversation between the singer and their best friend, who mentioned that there was someone interested in getting to know the singer better. The singer, feeling intrigued, extends an invitation to the love interest, assuring them that getting to know each other will be a good thing without any strings attached. The singer hopes that the love interest doesn't mind spending time with just the two of them because they believe it will be enjoyable.
In the second verse, the singer recalls a time when the love interest was out clubbing with their friends. The singer manages to obtain the love interest's number from their girlfriends who advised the love interest against pursuing a connection with the singer. However, the singer takes the chance and reaches out to the love interest, once again emphasizing that it was them who made the effort.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of the singer being the one who initially contacted the love interest, using a blocked ID for a week. The singer reveals that they were hesitant to express their feelings, unsure of how the love interest would respond. However, they take ownership of their actions and assert that it was indeed them who made the attempts to connect with the love interest.
Overall, "That Somebody Was Me" is a song about taking the initiative in pursuing a romantic connection and reminiscing on the efforts made to establish a relationship.
