His work consists mainly of short-form self-directed "monologues about life" shot in his grandparents' home. As of March 2008, Crocker's videos have received a combined 45.8 million plays on MySpace, and his vlog channel on YouTube is the 18th most viewed of all time in all categories, with over 153 million views. Although he has produced dozens of videos, Crocker gained international fame from his viral video tearfully defending Britney Spears's "lackluster MTV comeback" with over four million views in two days. The video received international media attention, hundreds of parodies, criticism and generated death threats for the androgynous performer.
Crocker's detractors and critics have accused him of narcissism, melodramatics, histrionics, and using Spears' personal shortcomings to bolster his own fame. Others have accused Crocker of acting in the "Leave Britney Alone" video, although he insisted it was a genuine on a September 2007 appearance on Maury Povich's Maury show.
In September 2007 Variety magazine revealed Crocker had signed a development deal with 44 Blue Productions to star in a documentary-style reality television show.
On September 19, 2008 Crocker released his first single "Mind In the Gutter" from his debut album Turned On set for release in January 2009. It has yet to be confirmed if he is signed to a label or not.
Breaking Up

To forget that I'm alive
Then you fall on your knees
When you need my sympathy
And you're drunk and starting fights
'Cause those pretty eyes are blind
You're the song I can't repeat
It's just the same old tired beat
I'm getting answers tonight
Yeah yeah
I need somebody to hold my hand
I know you're leaving tonight
Yeah yeah
I just don't understand
If we're so in love
Then why we breaking up
A heart beat ain't enough, no
If we fight again
It's heart break number ten
Will that time be the end
Why we breaking up
Go ahead take it all
Just admit it's all your fault
I'ma sit and watch you burn
Cause thats the way you learn
yeah
You bet I'm dancing tonight
Yeah yeah
I'm good at holding my own hand
I know you're tripping tonight
Yeah yeah
I just don't understand
If we're so in love
Then why we breaking up
A heart beat ain't enough, no
If we fight again
It's heart break number ten
Will that time be the end
Why we breaking up
I know you've had it hard
It's why you fall apart
I just need to walk away
Yeah
Somehow Ill disappear
I'm lost in all these tears
I just need to walk away
If we're so in love
Then why we breaking up
A heart beat ain't enough, no
If we're so in love
Then why we breaking up
A heart beat ain't enough, no
If we fight again
It's heart break number ten
Will that time be the end
Why we breaking up
The lyrics of Chris Crocker's song Breaking Up speak to the frustrations of a tumultuous relationship in which the other partner repeatedly seeks sympathy and forgiveness after mistreating the singer. The first verse describes the partner's behavior of drowning in high (perhaps drugs or alcohol) as a way of trying to forget that the singer is still alive, indicating that the partner may have a difficult time reconciling their actions with the love they feel for the singer. The partner often starts fights, driven by their blindness to their own actions, and the singer describes feeling trapped in a cycle of repeating the same story over and over again.
The chorus contemplates the impossibility of staying together when the relationship is full of heartache and fights, and no amount of love or apologies seem to mend the situation. The singer expresses a desire for someone to hold their hand through the ordeal, and expresses confusion as to why they are breaking up if they truly love each other. The second verse alludes to the partner's history of having a hard time, which may be contributing to their inability to maintain the relationship, and the singer ultimately decides to walk away from the situation.
Overall, the lyrics of Breaking Up capture the heartache and frustration of a relationship that has become toxic, and the singer's longing for something better.
