Chris Letcher Lyrics

I must be mistaken
You're the best that I had
Such self-delusion, never seen it so bad
I tried to tell you
You don't understand, oh
We saw bad blood on the dead man's fleece
With all you have to live through
You just can't see a pattern
Well, somebody's got to tell you where you're coming from
I know you say that you can't see the harm in it
Well, I tried to tell you
I tried to say
Your charity is just a
A cattle prod and I
I don't want your fences
I don't want your God, no
The swimming pool that you're
You're swimming in
This swimming pool's on a
A sinking ship
You don't love me, you don't love me so bad
I must be mistaken
You're the best that I had
I've seen the city and I
I've seen the town
I know hungry
I've been around
All my great intentions never come to life
You sounded like a bear in a trap on the thinnest ice
With all I have to live through
I just can't see a pattern
Now somebody's 'gotta tell you where I'm coming from
I know you say that you can't see the harm in it
Well, I tried to tell you
I tried to say
Such self-deception, never seen it so bad
I tried to tell you
You don't understand
I've seen the city and I
I've seen the town
I know hungry
I've been around
There's so much water (So much water)
There's something small now (Something small now)
Now we see the world as it is, it's a strategy
No common shark could ever
Break us down
We cannot look now
Rest on the ground
We love the city and we
We love the town

The swimming pool that you're

The swimming pool that you're

The song "Milk" by Chris Letcher is a lament about a failing relationship. The first verse suggests that the singer is in denial about the reality of the situation - that their lover doesn't love them anymore. Despite being told this, the singer can't accept it and clings to the hope that they are wrong. The second verse contains a metaphor about the lover being a wolf among sheep, suggesting that they are predatory and untrustworthy. The chorus repeats the idea that the lover doesn't love the singer but adds the idea that the singer has seen a lot of the world, been through tough times, and isn't easily deceived.
The third verse introduces a shift in perspective. The singer is now addressing the lover directly and accusing them of hiding behind their acts of charity. The line "your charity is just a cattle prod" implies that the lover is only doing good deeds to manipulate people or feel good about themselves. The next line, "I don't want your fences, I don't want your God" suggests that the singer doesn't want to be trapped by the lover's values or beliefs. The final verse introduces a new metaphor, that of a sinking ship with a swimming pool. The swimming pool represents the lover's comfortable life, but it's on a sinking ship representing the relationship. The final lines of the song express a sense of hopelessness and resignation.
