Rice was born in Washington DC, and has been a resident of Franklin and Nashville TN since his early twenties.
From his official website: "In 1996 he signed with a record label (Rocketown Records) as their first artist. After four plus albums and a few handfuls of Christian radio hit singles, he moved to an indie label (Eb+Flo) started by his producer and long time friend Monroe Jones. This new label relationship helped him expand his musical reach into more mainstream pop radio, especially with his light-hearted love songs 'When Did You Fall (In Love With Me)' and 'Lemonade,' still heard in Home Depots, Toys-R-Uses, restaurant bathrooms, airports and shopping malls around the country."
In June 2022, Tates Creek Presbyterian Church released a report on allegations of past sexual misconduct by Rice after commencing an investigation in October 2020.
Thirsty
Chris Rice Lyrics

Burning through the furthest corners of my soul
Deep desire, can't describe this
Nameless urge that drives me somewhere
Though I don't know where to go
Seems I've heard about a River from someone who's been
And they tell me once you reach it, oh, you'll never thirst again
Holy River, I'm so thirsty
Other waters I've been drinkin'
But they always leave me empty like before
Satisfaction, all I'm askin'
Could I really feel this thirsty if there weren't something more?
And I've heard about a River from someone who's been
And they tell me once you reach it, oh, you'll never thirst again
So I have to find the River, somehow my life depends on the River
Holy River, I'm so thirsty
I'm on the shore now of the wildest River
And I kneel and beg for mercy from the sky
But no one answers, I've gotta take my chances
Cause something deep inside mes cryin'
These lyrics from Chris Rice’s song Thirsty are a poignant portrayal of the human need for fulfillment and purpose, and the longing for something more in life. The first line of the song, “I’m so thirsty, I can feel it” creates an image of physical thirst, but as the song progresses, it becomes clear that the thirst is not just physical but a deeper, emotional and spiritual need for fulfillment. The burning feeling that the singer describes in the corners of their soul communicates the intensity of this need.
The singer goes on to describe their search for something that they cannot even describe. They have an urge to go somewhere, but they don’t know where that is. This is reflective of the human search for purpose and meaning, and the struggle to find one’s path in life. The imagery of the River that the singer has heard about and is searching for offers a metaphor for the ultimate fulfillment that they seek.
The second verse of the song describes the singer’s experience trying to quench their thirst with “other waters.” These waters have left them feeling empty and unfulfilled, which further emphasizes the intensity of the thirst they are experiencing. The singer then turns back to their search for the River and the hope that once they find it, they will never thirst again.
Overall, Thirsty is a powerful song that speaks to the human need for purpose, fulfillment and a sense of belonging. It is a message that resonates with people of all ages and backgrounds, and reminds us that we are all searching for something in life.
