Scars
Chris Sligh Lyrics

That I'm weaker than I told you
Can I open my soul, can I open my soul
And let you in?
'Cause light only shines, yeah, light only shines
From the places where we're broken
And that's where we find, yeah, that's where we find
Oh, it's easy now to let it go
The only thing that's left to show
That love has healed our broken hearts
Is scars, yeah
There's nothing to prove, no, nothing to prove
You don't have to be somebody
You are who you are and even your scars
Are lovely
Oh, it's easy now to let it go
The only thing that's left to show
That love has healed our broken hearts
Is scars, yeah
The secrets that we're keeping from each other
The weaknesses we all want to hide
The places where we're falling all to pieces
The tears we cry
Oh, it's easy now to let it go
The only thing that's left to show
That love has healed our broken hearts
Is scars, yeah, yeah
Yeah, oh, oh, yeah
The lyrics to Chris Sligh's "Scars" describe an admission of weakness and vulnerability. The singer is confessing that they are not as strong as they had previously made themselves out to be and are struggling to open up and let others in. However, the lyrics suggest that there is power in this vulnerability. The "light" that shines comes from the "broken" places in our lives, and it is in those places that grace and healing can be found. The song encourages listeners to embrace their own scars and weaknesses, as they are a testament to the love and healing that can come from our brokenness.
Throughout the song, there is an emphasis on letting go of the desire to prove oneself, and instead accepting ourselves as we are. The idea that even our scars can be "lovely" is a powerful one, as it suggests that we can find beauty in even the most painful parts of our lives. The final verse of the song lists the various things that we may try to keep hidden or ignore, such as our weaknesses and tears, but ultimately suggests that it is through embracing and accepting these parts of ourselves that we can experience healing.
Overall, "Scars" is a moving and uplifting song that encourages us to embrace vulnerability and find strength and beauty in our brokenness.
