Motor Bikin'
Chris Spedding Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Motorbikin', motorbikin', motorbikin', motorcycling
Movin' on the queens' highway
Lookin' like a streak of lightnin'
If you gotta go, go, gotta go motorbike ridin'
Listen to me and I'll tell you no lie
Too fast to live, too young to die
I bought a new machine and then they say
It takes your breath away

Motorbikin', motorbikin', motorbikin', motorcycling
Movin' on the queens' highway
Lookin' like a streak of lightnin'
Baby won't you come with me
I'll take you where you wanna be

Here I am again, I'm dressed in black
I got my baby, she's ridin' up back
We're doin' about ninety-five
I said: Oh, it's good to be alive

Motorbikin', motorbikin', motorbikin', motorcycling
Movin' on the queens' highway

Lookin' like a streak of lightnin'
If you gotta go, go, gotta go motorbike ridin'

Overall Meaning

The song "Motor Bikin'" by Chris Spedding is an upbeat, high-energy tribute to the thrill of riding a motorcycle down the open road. The lyrics speak to the feeling of freedom and exhilaration that comes from being in motion, speeding along the Queens' highway with the wind in your hair and the world at your feet. The repeated refrains of "motorbikin', motorcycling" serve to reinforce this sense of perpetual motion and restless energy, while the verses themselves paint vivid pictures of the experience of riding, from the sense of speed and urgency to the thrill of having a partner along for the ride.

The opening lines of the song establish this sense of urgency from the get-go, with the repeated mantra "motorbikin', motorcycling" underscoring the theme of motion and speed. The lyrics then go on to describe the experience of riding in more detail, emphasizing both the physical sensations (the feeling of wind rushing past, the sensation of being "too fast to live") and the emotional ones (the sense of freedom and the desire to seize every moment of life). The chorus, with its joyful call to "go motorbike ridin'," serves as further encouragement to embrace life to the fullest, to seize every opportunity for adventure and excitement.

I knew very little about Chris until my wife asked me who did this record.
Just googled him and WOW! He has played with some of the biggest names over the years and is still going strong.

@JohnSmith-zw2ym

Are you his manager?

@lazlokovacs2263

Chris is a true rock and roll horsepower. By the way, not just rock. It manages to be minimalist, distinct and cutting at the same time.

@dariowestern

Awesome song, I believe that Suzi Quatro and Len Tuckey did the backing vocals on the recording. Chris is a British rock'n'roll pride, but largely underrated as an artist in his own right.

@Pete1965

I never knew that until I read your comment, been a fan of both Suzi & Chris for over 50 years

@TheRockGourou

Just received his self-titled album from 1976 edits by Vinyl Replica, so amazing! He gives me THE driving guitar beat!! He is one of the best singer & guitarist of the 70's, and when you know he was the first producer of the Sex Pistols... You rock man!

@snardlefarb

Monster piles of thanks for posting this. Soundtrack of a life well spent. And Mr. Spedding? We all owe you. Cheers!

@TRUFFLEHOUNDEXPRESS

I was riding motorcycles when this first came out and still am. I'm now too old to die young.
