Rescue Me

Yeah, I could leap them tall, tall buildings for ya
Save the day like no one can
If you'd let me
I could stop a train in its tracks
Put the world on my back
In case you didn't see
Here go your hero
But tell me, who is gonna rescue me?
'Cause it sure feels like kryptonite
How you got me on one knee
With my hand out beggin' for mercy
What's a happy ending if I can't get the girl?
What's it matter if I save the world?
If you don't promise me
Before you take this ring
And rescue me
(Rescue, rescue)
(Rescue, rescue)
Never thought I'd feel this way
Always thought that love was a villain, baby
But ever since you came around it's different
Those kisses are leaving me defenseless
Who is gonna rescue me?
'Cause it sure feels like kryptonite
How you got me on one knee
With my hand out beggin' for mercy
What's a happy ending if I can't get the girl?
What's it matter if I save the world?
If you don't promise me
Before you take this ring
And rescue me
(Rescue, rescue)
(Rescue, rescue)
Um, baby, rescue me (rescue, rescue)
(Rescue, rescue)
Stop a train in its tracks
Put the world on my back
Here go your hero
Here go your hero
But who is gonna rescue me?
'Cause it sure feels like kryptonite
How you got me on one knee
With my hand out beggin' for mercy
Yeah, what's a happy ending if I can't get the girl?
What's it matter if I save the world?
If you don't promise me
Before you take this ring
And rescue me
(Rescue, rescue)
(Rescue, rescue) mm
Yeah baby, rescue me, oh (rescue, rescue)
(Rescue, rescue)
In "Rescue Me" by Chris Young, the lyrics explore the concept of being a hero and the vulnerability that comes with falling in love. The singer expresses his willingness to be the "Superman" for his love interest, willing to do anything and everything to save her and make her happy. He uses powerful imagery, referring to himself as someone who can leap tall buildings and stop a train in its tracks, to symbolize his determination and strength in protecting and supporting her.
However, despite his heroic tendencies, he finds himself in a vulnerable position. The love he feels for this person appears to weaken him, comparing it to kryptonite that makes him powerless. He is on his knees, begging for mercy, seemingly at their mercy. The singer questions the importance of his heroism and the significance of saving the world if he cannot have the person he loves by his side. He desires a promise from them, symbolized by the exchange of a ring, to commit to him and be there for him as he would for them.

I have been following his music since Nashville Star, he never disappoints with his voice. His lyrics always have the right things to say or feel. I honestly feel he is overlooked too much by country music awards, but maybe he doesn't need the awards to show his true talent....and I think he is a class act because he shows up at the grand ole opry showing his support and talent. Thank you Chris Young!!! Forever a fan!!! 💙
