Tilted
Christine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll die way before Methuselah
So I'll fight sleep with ammonia
And every morning, with eyes all red
I'll miss them for all the tears they shed

But I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted

I miss prosthesis and mended souls
Trample over beauty while singing their thoughts
I match them with my euphoria
When they said, "je suis plus folle que toi"

But I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted

Nous et la manne on est de sortie
Pire qu'une simple moitié
On compte à demi-demi
Pile sur un des bas côtés
Comme des origamis
Le bras tendu paraît cassé
Tout n'est qu'épis et éclis

Ces enfants bizarres
Crachés dehors comme par hasard
Cachant l'effort dans le griffoir
Et une creepy song en étendard
Qui fait

I'm doing my face
With magic marker
I'm in my right place
Don't be a downer

I'm doing my face
With magic marker
I'm in my right place
Don't be a downer

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted

I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted

Overall Meaning

In Christine's song "Tilted," the lyrics speak of her mentality and outlook on life. She acknowledges that she will not live as long as Methuselah, a biblical figure known for living a very long life. In order to make the most of her time, she fights sleep with ammonia and wakes up every morning with red eyes, missing those who have shed tears. However, she remains good and positive despite any challenges she may face. The lines "Can't help it if we're tilted" are repeated throughout the song, emphasizing that even though things may not always be perfect and may be "tilted," it is still possible to remain good and positive.

The second verse continues with Christine expressing her desire for imperfection, which she matches with her own euphoria. She also references being "crazy" in comparison to others who may judge her, stating "when they said, 'je suis plus folle que toi.'" The use of French in the line adds to the idea of embracing imperfection and standing out. The following verse includes more French language and talks about being different from the norm, like "origamis" with "cassé" (broken) arms. The final verse speaks to Christine's self-confidence and expression, with lines like "I'm doing my face with magic marker" and "I'm in my right place."

Overall, "Tilted" can be interpreted as a message of positivity despite any challenges or imperfections. Christine celebrates her uniqueness and shares a message of self-love and confidence.

I saw an interview with her where she discussed her childhood which was not so great. She was "body shamed" and told she wasn't attractive (the French must have a different standard, she looks beautiful to me) and she was tormented for being gay. Out of this crucible of social stupidity came a wonderful talent filled with grace and beauty. Wouldn't it be nice if the world could see that those among us who are "Tilted" are the ones that truly make this world wonderful.
