When the Night Falls
Chromeo/Solange Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the night falls, oh yeah
You can tell by the way that you feel
Make the right calls, oh yeah
And just hope that she remembers you still

I'm searching for a good time
In a city where there's nobody else around
And I know it's been a little while
But your number is the only one I found

Now we've had our share of ups and downs
In the years I came through your town
But let's put it all to rest
And just have a night of one on one
When the conversation has begun
Put your head on my chest

There's something about you, girl
And it's rather strange
I wanna come back to you, girl
And make another flame

When the night falls, oh yeah
You can tell by the way that you feel
Make the right calls, oh yeah
And just hope that she remembers you still

Well you probably think I'm a fast-talking romantic
With a highfalutin' ways
But it's all about the impression you made
On the first time I met you
That stayed with me for days
And now I want that feeling back
But I'm not sure where to get it
But you have the answer to that

And you say it's nothing but fun and games
But over the phone it's not the same
So let's try to cross paths

There's something about you, girl
And it's rather strange
I wanna come back to you, girl
And make another flame

When the night falls, oh yeah
You can tell by the way that you feel
Make the right calls, oh yeah
And just hope that she remembers you still

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh, yeah

When the night falls, oh yeah
You can tell by the way that you feel
Make the right calls, oh yeah

And just hope that she remembers
Hope that she remembers you still

Overall Meaning

In "When the Night Falls," Chromeo and Solange create a song about rekindling a romance. It begins with a sense of anticipation, as the chorus repeats the line, "when the night falls, oh yeah / you can tell by the way that you feel / make the right calls, oh yeah / and just hope that she remembers you still." This sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer seeks to reignite a relationship that has fallen by the wayside.

The lyrics describe a sense of longing and uncertainty. The singer searches for a good time in a city where there seems to be nobody else around, and is drawn to a particular person whose number is the only one he has. Despite a rocky history, the singer seeks to smooth things over and enjoy a night of conversation and intimacy. The song culminates in a repetition of the chorus, standing in for the singer's hopes that the effort will be worth it and that the other person will remember him.

At its core, "When the Night Falls" is a song about the fleeting nature of relationships and the importance of making the most of the time we have with the people we care about. The lyrics capture the sense of anticipation, excitement, and longing that comes with rekindling an old flame, and offer a reminder that sometimes we need to put in the work to make things right.

I think it's kind of amazing how they have three minutes and twenty seconds of insanity that then turns into a coherent story at the end, with a really touching message and a happy ending. Props not only to Chromeo, but to whoever came up with the idea. Well done!

@EdBoonSucks

Yeah, and the 'touching message' was; "If you get multiple girls pregnant, have your wingman raise them."

@IlyaSpektor

Credit goes to Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - they direct a lot of insanely creative videos, like Turn Down For What by DJ Snake

@jameswest360

They just won best directors, best movie, screenplay, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress for their movie

@PandaBoyrwarrr

If your kids ever tell you how babies are made, tell them it's all because of Chromeo

@charlesbrooks772

This music takes me back to the 80's. It even sounds like they are using the drum machines and synthesizers that were used on a lot of the dance tracks in the 80's. A good mixture of funk, r&b, and pop. This is some good stuff!!

@youngangel3926

Yup

@Nico93106

They're using them i guess. Watch the video they made for future music magazine, you'll have a glimpse of their studio, it is fill with vintage gears.

@louisjames1062

They use only 80s gear, watch their studio videos, even the pc is pentium 2. It's all made by them on 80s gear. Band are hugely underrated

@ototurmanidze5578

Charles Brooks firstly when I saw a short clip and photos in google I thought it was old or retro movie
