Cilla Black's version was a UK #1 hit in 1964: in May 2010 research published by BBC Radio 2 revealed that her version was the biggest female chart hit of the 1960s although that version, as well as Cilla Black, remains relatively unknown outside the UK and western Europe.
Anyone Who Had A Heart
Cilla Black Lyrics

And know that I love you
Anyone who ever dreamed, could look at me
And know I dream of you
Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me too, fool
Like you hurt me and be so untrue
What am I to do?
Every time you go away, I always say
This time it's goodbye, dear
Loving you the way I do
I take you back, without you I'd die, dear
Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me too, fool
Couldn't be another heart that hurt me
Like you hurt me and be so untrue
What am I to do?
Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me too, fool
Couldn't be another heart that hurt me
Like you hurt me and be so untrue
Anyone who had a heart would love me too
Anyone who had a heart would simply
Take me in his arms and always love me
Why won't you? Yeah
Anyone who had a heart would love me too
Anyone who had a heart would simply
Take me in his arms and always love me
The lyrics to Cilla Black's song "Anyone Who Had A Heart" speak about the universal desire for love and affection. The song opens with the idea that anyone who has ever loved can look at the singer and understand her love for the person she is addressing in the song. The second verse builds on this idea, stating that anyone who has ever dreamed can look at the singer and understand her dreams of this person. The chorus then declares that anyone who had a heart would take the singer in their arms and love her, despite the pain that the person has caused her in the past.
The lyrics convey a strong feeling of longing and desperation for love, despite past hurt and the fear of future hurt. The singer is begging for love and for someone to take care of her heart, to let her know that she is loved and cared for. The repeated line "Knowing I love you so" reinforces this desire and the intensity of her feelings.
Overall, the song reflects the universal human desire for love and the pain that can come when that love is not reciprocated or is taken for granted. It speaks to the emotional vulnerability that comes with loving someone deeply and the hope that one day that love will be returned.

A person with a heart - a true, kind, and loving person - would take me in their arms and love me as I love them. There's no way that anyone with a heart would hurt me the way you have, and be so utterly false. I don't know what to do in this situation

Take me in his arms and always love me
Why won't you? Yeah

Anyone who had a heart would love me too
Anyone who had a heart would simply
Take me in his arms and always love me
Once again, I reiterate that anyone who loves with a true heart would surely love me too, and would love me always, just for who I am

Her managers flat out recorded this song from it's debut concert by Dionne Warwick in Paris; then recorded it in the states before Dionne could. Miss Warwick's version is and always will be the most beautiful and moving version, the best version!

Cilla doesn't just sing the songs, she acts them. Hugely underrated. Deserves to be rediscovered in these sad, hard times we live in. Raw emotion will see us through, just like it does the girl in Cilla's songs.
@reic0002
Possibly. Have you noticed that all the people you see are showing no emotion at all? I mean ok, it wasn't all OTP like today but not one of those faces was reacting to the music. Strange eh?
@doloressimpson7456
@C R Yes, I definitely noticed that these British people showed NO EMOTION to such a GREAT song belted out by Cilla Black !!! They greatly lack appreciation !!! Sad.

I grew up knowing Cilla Black, but seeing this has made me realise just how powerful and versatile her voice was, what a performer! She puts so many modern singers to shame.
