Along with a successful recording career in the 1960s and early 1970s, Black hosted her own eponymous variety show, Cilla, for the BBC between 1968 and 1976. After a brief time as a comedy actress in the mid-1970s, she became a prominent television presenter in the 1980s and 1990s, hosting hit entertainment shows such as Blind Date (1985–2003) and Surprise Surprise (1984–2001).

When I Fall in Love
Cilla Black Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before its begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart
It will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that
You feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you
And the moment I can feel that
You feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you
Cilla Black's "When I Fall In Love," is a song about her desire for a love that lasts forever. The first two lines of the song set the tone by stating that her love will either be eternal or never exist at all. This can be interpreted as Cilla's reluctance to waste her time on fleeting love affairs that do not have any potential for longevity. She believes that love in a world like today's is hard to find, and one that has a chance of being permanent is even harder to come by.
The second verse speaks of her reluctance to give her heart away. This can be seen as a call back to the first two lines of the song; if her love is not eternal, then it is not worth giving her heart away. However, if she can find someone who feels the same way she does, she is willing to take the chance and fall in love.
In conclusion, "When I Fall In Love" is a song about the search for a love that lasts. Cilla Black's lyrics emphasize the importance of finding a love that is eternal, and the risk of giving one's heart away if there is no chance of the love being permanent.
