Break
Cinematics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I like my loneliness
And the thoughts it brings
The darkness can sometimes
Be a pleasure to me

I stand around on the outside
I've been peering from the edge
Looking for the answers
To the questions I'll never ask

It's from this place we'll find our peace
And reconcile our bitterness

We have to, we have to break
Break, break, break
Wash away, wash away

It's form this loneliness
And the fear it brings
That new doors can open up
And be a savior to me

So open my mind
(I'll)
Open my heart
It's the only way to breathe

It's just a trick of the lights she said
So don't panic, now don't panic

It's from this place we'll find our peace
And reconcile our emptiness
We had to we had to break, break, break
Wash away

It's just a trick of the lights she says
So don't panic, now don't panic
Wash away

Don't panic don't panic

It's just a trick of the lights
(Don't panic)

Overall Meaning

In "Break," Cinematics reflects on the paradoxical nature of loneliness. They acknowledge that although loneliness can be painful, it can also lead to introspection and revelations that ultimately heal the wounds that the outside world may have inflicted.

The opening lines set the tone and communicate the artist's sentiment towards loneliness. They enjoy the thoughts that come with it, and sometimes find the darkness it can bring appealing, which is a contradiction in itself. The next few lines convey feelings of detachment and the desire to find answers to life’s most perplexing questions from a distance.

The chorus repeats the phrase "We have to, we have to break," emphasizing the importance of breaking away from loneliness to wash away any bitterness or emptiness. The verses that follow keep with the theme of breaking away from loneliness by opening up and allowing new experiences and relationships to come in. The last line, "It’s just a trick of the lights she says," represents the realization that things are not always as they seem, and comforting words help to ease the effects of loneliness.

The overall message in the song is that breaking away from loneliness is a necessary step to finding peace, love, and happiness, despite the painful journey it requires.

How these boys slipped under the radar back in 2007 with this, their debut Album defies belief??!??? - 'A Strange Education' is quite simply a spectacular masterpiece. Fact.

@DarthBleh

I hope they reform someday. I'm Colombian so no chance for me to ever see them live unless I moved somewhere closer to them lmao

@No-pl2we

I'm Italian, I saw them live in Milan, I think in 2008 or 2009, a great show, very intense.

They were an amazing band. I saw them at the Cockpit, Leeds, supporting editors. It was a tiny venue so we chatted to Scott afterwards. He was really sweet and seemed surprisingly shy for a frontman. Good times.
