1. The Cinematics were an indie band which formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003. The band consisted of Scott Rinning (vocals, guitar), Larry Reid (guitar), Adam Goemans (bass) and Ross Bonney (drums). Ramsay Miller (guitar) left the band in 2008 and was replaced by Reid. The band has released two albums, "A Strange Education" (2007) and "Love and Terror" (2009). The band began recording their third album in Berlin in 2010. On July 25th 2011 it was reported that the band had split for good.
The band signed with TVT Records in 2005, and the label released "A Strange Education" in March 2007. The single "Keep Forgetting" was released from the album the previous month, and the album included the band's previous singles, "Chase" and "Break". In 2008, TVT Records announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and The Cinematics were one of a small handful of TVT artists whose contracts were retained by The Orchard, who purchased TVT's assets and back catalog. The Orchard released the band's second album, "Love and Terror" in September 2009. Two singles, "Love and Terror" and "New Mexico", were released from the album.
2. The Cinematics were a pre-Razorcuts Gregory Webster and Tim Vass, who put out one 7" EP 'Farewell To The Playground' on Pulsebeat Records (of Luton!) in 1982. One of the songs from the EP 'Puffa Train' would later appear on the Messthetics # 7: UK '78-82 "D.I.Y." Bands: "C" compilation and on The Sun Shines Here (The Roots Of Indie-Pop 1980-1984) box set. The Cinematics sound somewhat like the Razorcuts but in heavy overcoats rather than anoraks.

Scratching in the sand for the lost things
Pouring water on dead flowers hoping they might grow again
Might grow again, might grow again
Woken up at night by an empty heart
We'll cry ourselves to sleep
It was a false start
A false start
I-I wonder if you
Could ever stop
I-I wonder if you
Just let this go
I-I wonder if you
Could ever stop
I-I wonder if you
Just let it go, let it go, let it go
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It'll be alright
Walking around these halls for two long years
Been looking for the door I came in
But now there's something that I'm waiting for
There's something that I'm waiting for
Or maybe I've been chasing it
I don't know
But I have to go
I have to go
If I try
Tell me, will you try?
Hold on
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It's alright
Oh, oh
It'll be alright
Oh, oh, oh
There's a way out
We can take it if you like
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
Turning into something new
Whatever we may need
I want to try
I want to try
I have to try
I have to try
To hold on
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
The lyrics to The Cinematics's song Alright are full of emotional depth and a sense of longing for something more. The first verse talks about grasping onto fears of being left behind and trying to hold onto lost things. The imagery of pouring water on dead flowers in the hopes of them growing again represents the idea of trying to revive something that is no longer alive. The second verse talks about feeling lost for two years and searching for the door they came in, but now waiting for something new or chasing something they don't yet know.
The chorus repeats the phrase “It’s alright” multiple times, as if trying to convince themselves that everything will be okay. The verses and chorus are juxtaposed, with the verses being introspective and anxious, and the chorus being more confident and reassuring.
The bridge talks about turning into something new and wanting to try, but also acknowledging that they need to hold on. The repetition of “It’s alright” throughout the song acts as a mantra, helping the singer to believe that no matter what happens, they will be okay.
Overall, the song Alright by The Cinematics is about dealing with fear, uncertainty, and change, but finding comfort in the idea that everything will eventually be okay.
