Formed in the Lower East Side of New York by Alex Mitchell (vocals), Ricky Beck Mahler (guitar), Gary Sunshine (bass) and Ryan Maher (drums), their rough and rugged New York gutter image set them apart from emerging west coast sleaze bands. They toiled in the New York bar scene for years before RCA picked up on their blues-based, AC/DC influenced brand of metal. For Vices, the group moved Sunshine to guitar, and added bassist Zowie as the fifth member. But their brand of raunchy rock 'n' roll failed to catch on and the band was dropped.
The band revamped with Zowie being replaced by Mark Frappeir, and Maher by Victor Indrizzo respectively. They signed to Columbia and relocated to Los Angeles, but by the time Magic & Madness saw the light of day, the hard rocking music of the eighties was out of style. Circus Of Power disbanded in the mid-nineties without much fanfare, but has periodically played one-off shows.
Sunshine recorded with NY Loose, The Silos as well as a solo artist since the break-up. Mitchell fronted Uncle Max's Cosmic Band and its offshoot Fat Nancy, as well as writing a book titled "Life Is A Phantom K-Mart Horse Starting Up In The Middle Of The Night". Victor Indrizzo became the drummer of the much celebrated desert rock band Masters of Reality and a prominent session musician.

As the workin' girls go by
I'm just a dollar away from dyin'
If I could sell my tears I'd cry
Yeah
My loves on a bird of silver
She left here yesterday
She blew my head away
And though I know I'll end up dyin' in her broken dreams
I guess it's time to call
Mama tequila, Mama tequila, Mama tequila
I'm goin' down to the road house
To see what I can find
I got a buzz on like a king bee
I'm gonna ride into the night
And though I know I'll end up dyin' in her broken dreams
I guess it's time to call
Mama tequila, Mama tequila
Mama tequila, Mama tequila, yeah
I see you're your skin is shinin'
Underneath the desert sun
I feel my body burnin'
Baby 'cos you be the one
To whisper all your secrets
Tell me all your lies
I see your skin is shinin'
Water fallin' from your eyes
No, no, no, no, no, no
And though I know I'll end up dyin' in her broken dreams
I guess it's time to call
Mama tequila, Mama tequila
And though I know I'll end up dyin' in her broken dreams
I guess it's time to call
Mama tequila, Mama tequila
Mama tequila, Mama tequila
Wow-wow
Oh
Yeah
Mama tequila
Oaah … I see your brown skin is shinin' in the light
No, no, no, no, no, no ...
Mama tequila, Mama tequila
The lyrics to "Mama Tequila" by Circus of Power tell a story of a desperate man who finds solace in alcohol and the company of women. The singer speaks of sitting on Sunset Boulevard, watching "working girls" pass by, and feeling like he is on the brink of death. His love has left him, and the last time he saw her, she "blew his head away." Despite knowing that he will probably continue to spiral downward, he feels the need to call on Mama Tequila for comfort.
The singer then heads to a roadhouse, hoping to find something to numb the pain. He sees a woman with "shining skin," and he feels his body burning with desire. She whispers secrets and lies, and he is drawn to her. He knows that in the end, he will likely die in the broken dreams of his lost love, but he can't resist the pull of Mama Tequila.
Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a man who is lost, searching for something to fill the void left by his lost love. He turns to alcohol and other women for comfort, even though he knows it won't fix his problems. Mama Tequila represents a sort of escape for him, a way to forget his troubles, if only temporarily.
