Frigid and icy, the winter of 2004 gave birth to a band by the name of CITIES. Conceived in a marvelously heated practice
room in Chapel Hill, NC’s GO! Studios - brought up in grimy NC rock clubs like the Cat’s Cradle, Local 506 and Kings
Barcade - the group formed after UNC student, and classically trained musician, Josh Nowlan met a few like-minded music fans
named Robbie Mackey and Jeremy Pashcall.
After arguing over their favorite bands and discussing their appreciation for musical-restraint and macabre indie rock, a just-forfun
project had begun. Drummer Joey Ingram, whom Josh had known since high school, was stationed in nearby Greensboro,
NC, and after his percussion services were enlisted a mere month later, the band’s official lineup was set.
As they began writing, the confluence of Nowlan’s classical training, Mackey’s originality, and Paschall and Ingram’s punk and
hardcore pedigree produced a crisp, bombastic form of indie rock. A steadfast appreciation for the music of their youth found
itself coupled with a conscious decision to turn their sound away from the feverish and aggressive aesthetic they’d grown up on.
Deeply impassioned, without coming off as ham fisted and oafish, the music was epic, yet controlled, insistent, yet decidedly
serene.
Sharing the stage with such acts as Engine Down, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness,
Thunderbirds are Now!, We are Scientists and Unwed Sailor, Cities quickly fine-tuned their brilliant live show and - on the
strength of a meager demo, recorded in two days with the consummate Nick Petersen (Dillinger Escape Plan, Bellafea) -
garnered the attention of powerhouse indie label, Yep Roc Records. After debuting their somber rock to wider audiences at the
CMJ music festival in NYC, Cities entered the swank home-studio of Brian Paulson (Beck, Slint, Superchunk) to record their selftitled
debut Yep Roc full-length in the fall 2005.
The self-titled debut is completed, and will street this April 18th, 2006. The release will come on the heels of the band’s ’06
SXSW appearances (Yep Roc showcase, Fader Magazine party, and the Yep Roc/HARP Magazine/KEXP day party), so be
sure to catch them in Austin if you’re in town.
Look for Cities in 2006, on the road in support of their debut release.
6. Cities in a Welsh post-rock and instrumental electronic band from Swansea, Wales. They have released on EP titled Manning Alaska in 2015.
7. Cities was a post-hardcore band from Palm Coast/Gainesville, Florida, United States.
The band did some demo songs in 2008 and 2009 that had a atmospheric ambient yet hard hitting post-hardcore sound. They had a feature from Brennan Taulbee from Oceana on one of their songs.
Members:
Brian Heffner - Vocals
Jack Cosgrove - Guitar
Jake Valiente - Guitar

People should be considering how develop the world without making everything urban. Mega cities seem terrible. It's the worst part of living in a community. There's too many people, so it's inconvenient, and you don't get to know anyone, because there's too many people.
Single stream recycling is basically a joke. It's not hard at all to separate things at home. It's far more difficult to separate things when they are all mixed like that.
Maybe instead of developing automation for recycling, just give people different colored bags for each kind of type, and throw them in the bin. The sorting is much easier when it's already pre-sorted.
Composting can follow the same concept, of using a specially colored bag, but instead of being placed in the recycling bin, it can be in the trash, if that makes more sense.
Uber, in my opinion, was supposed to be a free way to connect people for ride sharing. Instead, it's just a lame taxi company with no union.
I think that shared transportation should be free, and people should opt in, because they have extra seats, and are heading that way. It shouldn't really be a job, just something you do because you are friendly. If there's no one headed your way, then taxi service is ok.
The problem with public transportation is the lack of convenience. How are you going to shop for anything, if you don't have a convenient way to get it home? I really don't buy this idea that public transportation is the solution. It's just part of the solution, not the answer. What's wrong with having a car that you don't need all the time?

You know it's time for serious "city discussion" when the violins start playing over a skyline timelapse

i am from Ahmedabad, and this is accurate narrative of my city, yes there is some corruption in development, but it done in advancing projects, and also waste management is improving .
@CoolMan-ig1ol
True. Corruption to an extent is acceptable if the cost you pay in bribes makes the work much faster than the legal cost which is aimed at getting more votes than making economic sense.
@iip8948
Its pretty clear that ahmedabad is successful by just looking at the map.
All localities look similar and well connected irrespective of incomes.
That's astronomically better than having groups of luxury skyscrapers connected by a single road and slums all around...
