Death Dance Approximately
Citizen Lyrics

One slip of the tongue
Razor sharp, but never let it show
It's like you need me enough to never let me go
I didn't want anything
I'll look you straight into the eyes and say
This is the last time I'll ever give you another piece of me

It comes for us all
I've got this aching that's taken over
Every day it keeps on getting a little worse
I beat myself down until I cave in
I will pry and I will claw just to be heard

I sat around till late
With nothing but a pen and a blank page
With nothing but the minutes pounding on me
The clean slate is just a moment of peace
I don't want anything
I don't want to go outside today
I don't want to talk to anybody
I don't care to hear about your day

It comes for us all
I've got this aching that's taken over
Every day it keeps on getting a little worse
I beat myself down until I cave in
I will pry and I will claw just to be heard
They took my cell phone, gave me a number
Said the only thing I want is to make you hurt
I beat myself down until I cave in
I will pry and I will claw just to be heard
Barefoot through the dark
What's left for you?
Cradle your glass heart
Is that enough for you?

I've got this aching that's taken over
Every day it keeps on getting a little worse
I beat myself down until I cave in
I will pry and I will claw just to be heard
They took my cell phone, gave me a number
Said I want what I want and it's what I deserve

I beat myself down until I cave in
I will pry and I will claw just to be heard

Overall Meaning

"Death Dance Approximately" by Citizen is a song about feeling trapped in a toxic relationship and struggling to break free. As the singer tries to distance themselves from their partner, they find themselves getting sucked back in, and they are left with nothing but their own inner turmoil. The chorus highlights this theme with the line, "It comes for us all / I've got this aching that's taken over / Every day it keeps on getting a little worse." Despite their efforts to distance themselves from the relationship, the singer finds themselves beaten down and desperate for attention. This is evidenced by the lines "I will pry and I will claw just to be heard."

Throughout the song, there is a sense of isolation and desperation. The singer feels alone and unheard, as if their cries for help are drowned out by the noise of the world around them. In the second verse, the singer speaks to the overwhelming feelings of pressure and anxiety, saying "I sat around till late / With nothing but a pen and a blank page / With nothing but the minutes pounding on me / The clean slate is just a moment of peace." The pressure of the situation has become too much to bear, and the singer is left feeling hopeless.

Overall, "Death Dance Approximately" is a powerful and emotional track that speaks to the difficulties of breaking free from toxic relationships. It is a reminder that we all have the strength to move on, but that it can be a difficult and painful process.

The energy at the end of this song is insane!! How are there only 10k views? this the most refreshing album I’ve heard all year. Citizen is the most slept on band of our generation. So many hits imo but get no mainstream attention. I need to find some homies who vibe with this kind of stuff! No top 40 crap

ChewyFish

Citizen just doesn’t miss
