1… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least multiple bands/artists sharing the name Citrus:
1. Citrus is an influential Japanese indie pop group from the 1990s.
2. Citrus was a Latvian indie rock band active in late 1990s until about 2002.
3. Citrus was a collaboration between Richard H. Kirk (1956 - 2021), one of the three founding members of Cabaret Voltaire, and Steve Cobby. They released on EP, "Adrenachrome" in 1992.
4. Citrus is the musical alias of Gabriel Melchor, a DJ and producer hailing from Denver, CO, with a diverse range encompassing reggae, electro, glitch hop, and everything in-between.
5. Citrus (Fossil Citrus on social media) is the name of a Vocaloid producer and artist, primarily using Sekka Yufu (雪歌ユフ) and Tsumitsugu Nae (罪告ナエ).
His passion for music started early in life, with Bob Marley becoming a staple in his rotation at the young age of 11. As he grew into teenhood, his tastes changed to encompass the rebellious and frenetic styles of punk and ska, but it was in high school that he was exposed to the mind-bending (and life-changing) sounds of IDM and drum and bass, with artists like Autechre, Aphex Twin, and Roni Size wielding sonic palettes he had never imagined possible. This newly discovered passion for the abstract sounds of electronica in all its forms provided the impetus to create and discover new sonic territory of his own.
Today, Citrus’ musical creations fuse elements from the many styles which have shaped his tastes over the years. The result is a sonic melting pot like life itself, both urban and natural, shifting tempos and textures seamlessly from one minute to the next; the bitcrushed alongside the beautiful, the cold and calculated battling the analog and tribal. The aim is to find musical common ground and a unique sound which inspires people to dance, laugh, cry, and share in the personal freedom that can only be experienced through music.
Higher Ground

doesn't know which way is north
I'm left spinning
Searching for the truth
We dart around
like scared little fish
Not knowing where
And I'm left,
oh how I'm left
Searching for:
Higher grounds
Higher grounds
Oh higher grounds
I'm left, searching for Higher grounds
I post online
Too much of the time
But trending habits
Don't suite my health
Where viral videos
Tell us what to do
How can we think
Of something new
And I'm left,
oh how I'm left
Searching for:
Higher grounds
Higher grounds
Oh higher grounds
I'm left, searching for Higher grounds
It's not a higher ground
I'm looking for,
but I've already found
My true north
Living my life
authentically
Interpreting this way
as a higher ground.
And I'm left,
oh how I'm left
Searching for:
Higher grounds
Higher grounds
Oh higher grounds
I'm left, searching for Higher grounds
The lyrics to Citrus's song "Higher Ground" explore themes of moral confusion, the challenges of navigating the digital age, and the search for authenticity. The singer begins by expressing their internal struggle, feeling lost and uncertain about their moral compass. They describe themselves as spinning and searching for the truth, not knowing which direction to take.
The second verse uses metaphors to depict the collective confusion and fear experienced by society. Comparing people to scared fish, the lyrics highlight the struggle of finding safety and certainty in an uncertain world. The mention of constantly posting online suggests that the singer, like many, is heavily influenced by social media trends and viral videos. However, they question the validity of such habits, pondering how they can think of something new when constantly bombarded by the opinions and instructions of others.
In the final verse, the singer realizes that the search for higher ground is not about an external destination but rather an internal state of being. They have already found their true north, meaning they have discovered their authentic self. By living their life authentically and interpreting the world in their own unique way, they perceive this as the ultimate higher ground.
Overall, the lyrics of "Higher Ground" communicate the struggle to find moral clarity, the effects of digital influence on individuality, and the importance of staying true to oneself in a world filled with noise and distractions.
