Originally hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Civil Twilight is a power trio that draws parallels with Pilot Speed and is especially known for their similar sound to early U2, Muse, Jeff Buckley, and Radiohead. Their music has been described as having impassioned vocals and stirring, alt-rock songcraft. Brothers Andrew and Steven McKellar were raised in a musical household, having explored their father's jazz collection at a young age while listening to their classically trained mother play piano. In November 1996, Andrew launched a teenaged band with help from his high school classmate, guitarist Richard Wouters. The two scheduled an inaugural rehearsal for the following month; in the interim, Andrew discovered that his younger brother, Steven, could sing and write songs. The three musicians subsequently banded together, with Steven agreeing to master the bass and Wouters giving up the guitar (which Andrew also played) to learn drums.
Their songs have been featured in many TV spots, including One Tree Hill and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. "Quiet In My Town" was prominently featured at the end of Season 6 Episode 3 Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. of One Tree Hill on The CW Network. It played for 6 minutes during the coda – the scene of Quentin's funeral. They have also had songs on Vampire Diaries and the movie, "Underworld: Awakening". "Letters From The Sky" was featured at the end of Episode 11 of Harper's Island, after Wakefield kills Cal and Chloe commits suicide. In addition to this, the song was also featured on Season 7 of One Tree Hill, in the opening scene of the episode, You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son. The song has also featured at the end of the film I Am Number Four.

Wasted
Civil Twilight Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ooh
I saw an add on the television
Telling me to stay home
But all the lights on the freeway burning
Tell me just to keep going
So now I glide
Wasted
I want to get wasted on your love
Wasted
Drink till the morning comes
Remember those rhythms, those places, those songs
That made our souls move
The taste of salt of the earth on our wet skin
We've got nothing to prove
I don't want to fall out
I just want to take you in
Wasted
I want to get wasted on your love
Wasted
Drink till the morning comes
I'm taking it back to the way it was
When we were forming
Searching for the genesis
When love was dawning
I'm taking it back to the way it was
When we were forming
Searching for the genesis
When love was dawning
Dawning, dawning, dawning
Wasted
I want to get wasted on your love
Wasted
I want to get wasted on your love
On your love
The song "Wasted" by Civil Twilight is an ethereal track that is both poignant and raw. The lyrics seem to be a plea to someone - perhaps a lover - to drink in the beauty of life and love, and to not waste a moment of it. The singer of the song is torn between the advice of the modern world (as symbolized by the ad on TV telling them to stay home) and the allure of the open road (symbolized by the lights on the freeway). In the end, the singer chooses the latter - they glide towards the "beauty in the fading light." It's a beautiful, almost spiritual sentiment that captures something essential about the human experience: our desire to experience life, to feel something deeply, even if it comes at a cost.
The chorus of the song repeats the word "wasted" over and over again, but the meaning is far from straightforward. On the one hand, it seems to suggest a desire to get drunk on love - to lose oneself completely in the intoxicating feeling of being with someone you care about. But there is a darker side to the word as well. To be "wasted" is to be spent, to have nothing left to offer. There is a sense of urgency to the song, of needing to hold onto what little time and love we have left before it slips away. In this way, the chorus feels like a plea, a desperate attempt to hold onto something that is slipping away.
Overall, "Wasted" is a beautiful and melancholic song that captures something essential about the human experience - our desire to hold onto something meaningful in an ever-changing and chaotic world.
