Conceived in the late 80s as a reaction to the polished sound of Zairean pop, the sound of Classic Swede Swede was raw, pure energy.
Classic Swede Swede's music is inspired by Mongo traditions and its famous vocal polyphonies. They were banned by Kinshasa radio for "obscenity", which must have played a part in their rise to fame. But it is certainly above all their minimalistic instrumentation (vocals, an array of drums, and two distorted harmonicas), the catchy rawness of their sound and their incredibly infectious beat which took by charm the "land of a thousand dances".
