After banshee wailer Poly Styrene departed from X-Ray Spex, the remaining members held auditions for a replacement singer. Solo won the approval of a few of Styrene's former bandmates, and they debuted at the Music Machine on August 1979. Airport left the group before they even recorded their first single; he was replaced by Gary Steadman. In 1981, Classix Nouveaux released "Guilty," one of their most well-known tracks; the track was a Top-20 hit in Sweden and received interest in the U.K. as well as the U.S. The music video also received airplay on MTV.
A year later, the single "Is It a Dream" reached number 13 on the U.K. charts. Despite successful tours in Yugoslavia, Finland, and Poland, none of Classix Nouveaux's three albums truly catapulted them beyond cult status in Britain or America, getting lost in the shuffle of other new romantic groups that they had originally influenced. The band split up in 1985, and Solo started recording Christian music.
In 2021 band has reunited and released album with re-recorded songs from their back catalogue plus some new material in November 2023 entitled "Battle Cry"
La vérité

So many times we heard them say
How love comes to a soul
In many different ways
Now I know
(Will you say)
Will you say
La verité?
They didn't warn us
Of the disappointments too
One-sided love affairs
Are really nothing new
Now I know
(Will you say)
Will you say
(Will you say)
La verité?
All life had gone and nowhere love found me
By the sun, it's happiness all around me
Now
Gray skies are gathering up above me
I'm the fool, I know that you don't think of me
I try to come to terms
With this reality
It's hard to take the pain
It's harder still to me
Now I know
(Will you say)
Why don't you say
(Will you say)
La verité?
All my life had gone and nowhere love found me
By the sun, it's happiness all around me
Now
Gray skies are gathering up above me
I'm the fool, I know that you don't think of me
All my life had gone and nowhere love found me
By the sun, it's happiness all around me
Now
Gray skies are gathering up above me
I'm the fool, I know that you don't think of me
I know you'll never come
To love a man like me
I'll just be a friend
If that's the only role that's free
Sometimes, I wonder why
Your eyes choose not to see
The tide has left you as
A moment in history
Now I know
(Will you say)
Why won't you say
(Will you say)
La verité
(Will you say)
The song "La Verité" by Classix Nouveaux talks about the different facets of love and the reality of relationships. The first verse highlights how love can come in different ways and how it's often said that love is a beautiful thing. However, the chorus brings in the reality of love and how people aren't always warned about the disappointments that come with being in a relationship. The second verse talks about one-sided love affairs and how they're not uncommon.
The bridge of the song talks about the singer's personal experience with love, where he says that he had a life before but nowhere love found him. He talks about how everything seems happy around him, but the grey skies have gathered above him as he feels like a fool for loving someone who doesn't love him back. The final verse is about acceptance, where the singer knows that the person he loves will never love him in return. He's willing to play any role, even if he's just considered a friend. He wonders why the person he loves can't see that their relationship was just a moment in history.
Overall, the song talks about love and relationships, portraying both the beautiful side and the harsh reality of it. It's about acceptance and moving on, even if it means being friends with someone you love.
