Toda despedaçada
Foi o cravo singelo
Que brigou com a rosa adorada
O cravo brigou com a rosa
E quem chorou fui eu
O cravo brigou com a rosa
E novamente o sol surgiu
Prometendo um lindo dia
O inverno também passou
E a chuva também cessou
Apareceram flores na terra
Sabiá cantando anuncia a primavera
Macieira já deu suas maçãs
Pois o tempo de cantar chegou
Pois tudo é lindo, é paz, alegria e amor
Mas eis que no meu caminho
Vejo uma rosa despedaçada
Foi o cravo singelo
Que brigou com a rosa adorada
O cravo brigou com a rosa
E quem chorou fui eu
O cravo brigou com a rosa
E quem chorou fui eu
E novamente o sol surgiu
Prometendo um lindo dia
O inverno também passou
E a chuva também cessou
Apareceram flores na terra

The lyrics of Claudette Soares's song "O Cravo Brigou Com a Rosa" tell a story of conflict and heartbreak. The song starts with the singer witnessing a rose that has fallen to the ground, completely shattered. It is revealed that the cause of this damage is the humble carnation, which had a dispute with the beloved rose. The singer expresses their sadness and acknowledges that it is they who shed tears over this clash between the two flowers.
As the song continues, it paints a picture of the changing seasons and the beauty of nature. The sun reappears, promising a lovely day, and winter has passed, taking the rain with it. Flowers bloom on the earth, and the singing of the thrush heralds the arrival of spring. The apple tree has also produced its fruits, as the time for singing has come. Everything seems to be filled with beauty, peace, joy, and love.
However, the singer's path is marred by the sight of a shattered rose once again. The same humble carnation is responsible for this destruction, and once more, it is the singer who sheds tears over the situation.
