In the early 80's John Mayall heard Montoya playing guitar in a Los Angles bar. Soon after Mayall asked Montoya to join the newly reformed Bluesbreakers. He remained a member of the band for 10 years.
In the early 90's Montoya decided it was time to go out on his own. He has recorded several highly acclaimed blues CD's.thankfully, he did it in Santa Cruz
Running Away from Love
Coco Montoya Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
she could be a angel sent from up above.
its always been the same it's always been a pain.
i got a real bad habit running away from love.
my friends try to tell me boy whats wrong with you.
maybe i cant live up to living love day by day cause loves been mine so.
many
times before it's hard to believe it's real.
my heart starts to ache and i hit the road again.
These lyrics in Coco Montoya's song, Running Away from Love, bring to light the internal turmoil that the singer faces when it comes to matters of the heart. The lyrics begin with an admission that the singer has been in this same cycle before. He has been loved by good women, but he has never been able to reciprocate or make it last. The singer feels that something deep inside of him is causing him to run away from love instead of embracing it. He acknowledges that the women he meets might be perfect for him, but deep down, he knows that he has a bad habit of running away from love.
The singer's friends are puzzled by his behavior and try to help him understand what is wrong with him. But, the singer feels that it is difficult for him to live up to the expectations of loving someone day in and day out. He has been hurt too many times, and it is difficult for him to believe that love is real. As a result, every time he starts feeling that his heart is getting attached to someone, he feels a sense of pain and starts running away.
Overall, these lyrics convey the singer's internal struggle to reconcile his fear of getting hurt again with his desire to find love. The lines, "she might shine just like a diamond, she could be an angel sent from up above" show that the singer is aware that he is missing out on something valuable by running away from love.
