Lead singer Chase Lawerence commented on the song’s production in a tweet:
"“Chapstick” is a combination of sounds that I’ve never heard before… like you fed hours of 60s, 70s rock into a computer & politely asked them to pick up in 2023."
“Chapstick" was first teased on September 29, 2021. It eventually reached #1 for Sirius XM Alt Nation on January 16, 2021.

She's a friend of mine, and an apple pie
And a sharpshooter, I'm in overtime like
Hey sharpshooter, I feel like I'm intrudin'
She's a friend of mine, and an alibi
In the getaway car, in overdrive like
This sharpshooter, I like the way you move us
She's a real live wire, what's she talking about?
I think I love her
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
So don't, don't come back looking for me, me
No, you don't
How come they lookin' for you, you, you?
I just wanna be here
Walking like an animal
I just wanna teach her a thing or two
Let's lose control and alt delete
And one, two, three, four, five
I don't wanna fight, butterflies
Out of sight, out of my mind
I just wanna taste your Chapstick
I just wanna taste your-
I just, I just, I just wanna taste your Chapstick
I just wanna taste your-
I just, I just, I just wanna-
Dance, baby
I just wanna cry lately
I saw her face from across the room
Eyes looking at me, looking at you like
Hey, cherry blossom, yeah, yeah, what's your problem?
I don't want your leather jacket, I just wanna taste your Chapstick
Hey sharpshooter, what, what are we doing?
She's a real wildfire and she's hard to contain
She's going all the way
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
She's a real live wire, what's she talking about?
I think I love her
(I just, I just, I just wanna) I just wanna be here
Walking like an animal
I just wanna teach her a thing or two
Let's lose control and alt delete
And one, two, three, four, five
I don't wanna fight, butterflies
Out of sight, out of my mind
I just wanna taste your Chapstick
I just wanna taste your-
I just, I just, I just wanna taste your Chapstick
I just wanna taste your Chapstick
(I just, I just, I just wanna) I just wanna be here
Walking like an animal
I just wanna teach her a thing or two
Let's lose control and alt delete
And one, two, three, four, five
I don't wanna fight, butterflies
Out of sight, out of my mind (taste your Chapstick)
I just wanna dance, baby
I just wanna cry lately
The song "Chapstick" by Coin is a pop-rock track that talks about a guy's infatuation with a girl who is his friend but also a real "live wire." The song starts with an introduction of the girl, who is described as an apple pie and a sharpshooter. The guy feels like he's intruding on her life but can't help but be attracted to her. He finds himself drawn to her energetic and vibrant personality that is difficult to contain. The chorus is about his desire to be with her, to dance with her, and to share intimate moments like tasting her chapstick.
The second verse continues with his fascination with the girl, whom he refers to as a cherry blossom. He doesn't want her leather jacket; instead, he wants to taste her chapstick. He finds her hard to contain, like a wildfire that has already gone all the way. The chorus repeats with a more urgent tone, expressing his desire to teach her a thing or two and to lose control with her.

I confess this song was my first experience with the band, as I'm from another generation entirely, but a good friend my age, 60, just sent it to me tonight and it drew me in enough that I was even led to read the comments about it which I don't do very often. But I was drawn in by this song in a way I couldn't put my finger on and it led me to read the comments.
Yes, really I'm 60 and that may or may not give me a good reason for not having heard of the band. But, as I said a friend just sent it to me tonight.
I found myself very inexplicably drawn in some sort of an imperceptible way, to this music.
Interesting, I started reading some of the comments and came across this comment thread talking about something called a "liminal vibe."
At first I felt "even more old" because I had no idea what you were talking about, but then I decided just to look up what does liminal mean?
It was pretty cool... I went through a bunch of descriptors of both synonyms and antonyms and it was cool, because it described exactly how the music grew on me....
It was in a barely perceptible way that it crept up on me.
And that's what liminal means, something that happens, in between, in a barely perceptible way.
Of course being a woman of words, I'm now hyper focusing on what Liminal Vibe means, so in my research of this concept, I came to discover the whole concept of people creating actual "Liminal Spaces" in order to have a certain kind of experience with that feeling.
That seemed for a minute like another can of worms all together... until I started to think about the visual and perceptual aspects of the video and even how the music itself made me feel while looking at all of that.
My brain is still trying to string all of that information somehow all together but I feel having that knowledge helps the video makes sense, and perhaps is why it grew on me so much.
Leave it to me to analyze so much how I felt about it!
I definitely like it and it will grow on me more and more. Time to hit replay!
