Moments
Cold Mailman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been at your door for months now
All you neighbours see me stalking
It's getting cold, and I'm aware

that you're never gonna open
But you want me to keep knocking
Just so you know there's someone there
I'm right here waiting, my dear

You will let me in
to feel your skin
if I wait for the right moment
all it takes is discipline
and lingering
I'm gonna wait for the right moment

I've forgotten what it feels like
to be in your neat apartment
or to be anywhere but here
Are you vexed by my mere presence?
Or will you soon resort to mocking
my willingness to persevere?
So you're never gonna answer
but if you want I'll keep in talking
or softly whisper in your ear

And you will let me in
to feel your skin
if I wait for the right moment
all it takes is discipline

and lingering
I'm gonna wait for the right moment

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cold Mailman's song "Moments" tell a story of longing and persistence in the face of rejection. The singer has been standing outside the door of their love interest for months, knowing that they are being watched by the neighbors and feeling the cold weather. Despite being aware that the person inside is unlikely to ever open the door, the singer continues to knock, providing reassurance of their presence.

The singer expresses a deep desire to be allowed into the apartment, to feel the warmth of the person's skin. They believe that if they wait for the right moment and exercise self-control and patience, they will eventually be granted entry. The repetition of the phrase "I'm gonna wait for the right moment" highlights the singer's determination to seize the opportunity when it arises.

As the singer muses on how they have forgotten what it's like to be anywhere other than outside the door, they question whether the person inside is annoyed by their constant presence or if they will begin to make fun of their persistence. Despite the lack of response from the person inside, the singer is willing to continue talking to them or whispering affectionate words in their ear, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a connection.

Overall, the lyrics capture the emotional intensity of unrequited love and the hope that with enough patience and persistence, the singer will eventually be let in and allowed to feel close to the object of their affection. The repeated theme of waiting for the right moment conveys a sense of anticipation and the belief that timing and perseverance will lead to a breakthrough in gaining the attention and affection of the reluctant recipient.

PLEASE WE NEED MORE MUSICS ><. Love from Brazil :D

Between this, and your fifty fifty clown cover chefs kiss you are the best. Love you guys big time. Coming to the UK?

I know what you mean, I've seen some awesome bands in tiny venues with hardly anyone there. Which sucks. But I genuinely blame the neoliberalism, and the fact that those who would go to gigs and venues etc. are genuinely skint. I've seen some amazing bands play to an audience of, like, 14 people at £7 on the door or whatever. The Black Queen, supported by tennis system last year in Nottingham is a case in point. But yeah, I hope I get to take you up on that offer. So please don't split up or anything like that! Your music is fucking beautiful! Norway is on my bucket list for sure, I actually looked at a couple of PhD's over there and it was amazingly well paid comparatively. I love the Scandinavian approach to things. I'm also a massive lover of cold weather. Not entirely sure why I'm still here to be honest :p

Shoegaze 88 Hah! Yeah, LIFE sure is more expensive here (though wages are quite a bit better, so basically only tourists need that pint-loan) but touring in the UK is a nightmare for artists like us. If you come over I’m sure we can get you a free pint or two! 😉

Shoegaze 88

Expensive? Don't you guys live in Norway? Where everything is beautiful, but you have to take out a loan to buy a pint? It's okay though, I'll try and make it over to a show, if my country doesn't dissolve in the next two - three months and it all goes a bit mad max. Wish us luck. I mean it's basically a choice between a narcissistic populist neoliberal aristocratic fuckwit, and a peace prize winning human rights activist, but apparently people are finding it difficult to make a decision x

Shoegaze 88 Thanks! 😊 Probably not coming to the UK though. Expensive and difficult… 😕
