Our Last Summer
Colin Firth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
Walks along the Seine
Laughing in the rain
Our last summer
Memories that remain
We made our way along the river
And we sat down in the grass by the Eiffel tower
I was so happy we had met
It was the age of no regret
Oh, yes
Those crazy years
That was the time of the flower-power
But underneath
We had a fear of flying
Of growing old
A fear of slowly dying
We took our chance
Like we were dancing our last dance

I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all

In the tourist jam

Round the Notre Dame

Our last summer
Walking hand in hand

Paris restaurants

Our last summer

Morning croissants

Living for the day
Worries far away
Our last summer
We could laugh and play

And now you're working in a bank
The family man, a football fan
And your name is Harry

How dull it seems

Yet, you were the hero of my dreams

I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
Walks along the Seine
Laughing in the rain

Our last summer
Memories that remain

Overall Meaning

The song "Our Last Summer" sung by Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Amanda Seyfried, and Meryl Streep in the movie Mamma Mia! is about remembering a past summer spent in Paris. The singer is reminiscing on the memories of walking along the Seine, laughing in the rain, visiting the Eiffel Tower, and eating croissants at Parisian cafes with the person they were with. The lyrics suggest that this summer was a time of carefree love and happiness, but also haunted by the fear of growing old and slowly dying. The singer acknowledges that they both took their chances, living as if they were dancing their last dance.

The song paints a vivid picture of romanticized Paris; the tourist jam, the Notre Dame cathedral, the Seine River, the Eiffel Tower, hand-holding, and laughter. The singer also reflects on how their lover has changed over the years; now a family man who works at a bank and enjoys football. Yet, despite the changes, the person was still remembered as the hero of their dreams, and the memories of their summer in Paris remain vividly alive.

In summary, "Our Last Summer" is a bittersweet song that reminisces on an unforgettable summer spent in Paris, filled with love and fear for the future, and a longing to hold on to the precious memories made.

une histoire fabuleuse. Plein d entrain.

Incroyable Colin.
Le meilleur.
A la fois touchant , sensible . Et puis cette énergie in croyable.
Cette danse dans ce costume flamboyant. Super sexy
.subjuguée.
Il a tous les dons dont celui d attirer cet essaim de femmes autour de lui. Superbe. Satisfait bien sûr.
Enfin toujours sensationnel

Continues Colin de nous éblouir..

There's something uniquely special about Colin's performance of this song. It was truly sweet and very sentimental which is just Colin Firth in a nutshell really :) He was clearly out of his comfort zone having to sing solo. But he did a surprisingly excellent job imo. I actually think his fear and uncertainty, made his performance even more endearing. No matter what role Colin Firth takes on, he always manages to shine in absolutely everything he does :)
