Glory Days
Color Theory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing changes in the day by day
But then we look back
And nothing is the same
What do we cling to at the last?
Boring stories of foolish acts
Enlarged and embellished
Sealed and vacuum-packed
Best friends can't let go of the past

A life in Technicolor
Beyond the ever after
A yellowed Polaroid
Can't fill the aching void
Of glory days
Glory days
Crushed by the absolute fact
That things can never go back
To how they used to be
Accept wholeheartedly
The glory days
Those were the glory days

Wasn't ready to come of age
Still waiting for my shot at center stage
Too immature to let it go
I'm inclined to take the longer view
The future me seeking out the future you
Forever hunting high and low

A life in Technicolor
Beyond the ever after
A yellowed Polaroid
Can't fill the aching void
Of glory days
Glory days
Crushed by the absolute fact
That things can never go back
To how they used to be
Accept wholeheartedly
The glory days
Those were the glory days

It isn't all bad
Getting older
Waited years to kiss you
Wasted away
And now I do it every day

A life in Technicolor
Beyond the ever after
A yellowed Polaroid
Can't fill the aching void
Of glory days
Glory days
Crushed by the absolute fact
That things can never go back
To how they used to be
Accept wholeheartedly
The glory days
Those were the glory days
And if you can't recall
We'll just redo it all
The glory days
These are the glory days

These are the glory days
These are the glory days

These are the glory days
These are the glory days

Overall Meaning

The Color Theory’s song β€œGlory Days” contemplates the feeling of nostalgia for what is lost or left behind through the course of life. The opening lines suggest that often we don’t even notice when the changes happen, as they occur gradually, until we look back and realize how much has changed. The lyrics speak about the way we hold onto the past, like β€œboring stories of foolish acts, enlarged and embellished, sealed and vacuum-packed”. Even though, intellectually, we know that we can never return to those moments, we can’t help but try. The song evokes a powerful image with the words β€œA yellowed Polaroid can’t fill the aching void of glory days”.

β€œGlory Days” presents a unique narrative of reminiscence, with relatable themes that tug at our heartstrings. It’s a thoughtful piece of work that recognizes that for all of the wonderful experiences and memories that we hold dear, time marches on, and we must accept that we cannot go back. The song’s ending offers a glimmer of hope, however, suggesting that if all else fails, we can always create more memories to cherish and look back on. β€œAnd if you can’t recall, we’ll just redo it all, the glory days. These are the glory days.”

Omgsh, @Colortheory, I think I speak for everyone in our generation when I say that we all NEEDED to hear this! Such an eclectic mix of emotion, nostalgia and memories - and it also somehow helps to give me closure to those lost days of the 80's and 90's. Bravo, my friend! You are truly a revolutionary and renaissance individual of this modern Era! Keep the tunes coming!

Color Theory

Wow, thank you for that generous assessment! I appreciate the encouragement! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»
