1. 2004-2013
Comadre was a band from Redwood City (a suburb of San Francisco), California, comprising of former members of Heartcrosslove, One's Own Ruin, and Light This City. Their sound is an off-shoot of hardcore and punk played fast and chaotic with an abundance of energy, but also a large focus on melody and tunefulness. Their influences can perhaps best be shown by the covers the band has performed live, by groups such as Rites of Spring, Refused, Kid Dynamite, and Suicide File.
After playing a handful of shows and releasing a three-song demo under the moniker Coffin, the band changed their name to Comadre in the fall of 2004. The word 'comadre', in addition to being loosely translated as "godmother" in Spanish, is a slang-term for anyone not related by blood who is like family.
Since their formation, the band has released three LPs ("The Youth", "Burn Your Bones" & "A Wolf Ticket"), one EP ("Songs About the Man"), a split LP (with the German band TRAINWRECK), a split double 7" (with the German band Glasses), and a discography tape (which doesn't include the TRAINWRECK split). They have toured extensively through Europe, Japan, with hardcore band Endzweck, and the United States, most commonly with Los Angeles-based cinemagrind band Graf Orlock.

Breakfast of Champions
Comadre Lyrics

The lonely walks bring out the lonely eyes.
The hunger dies because of the lies.
My stomach asks for something you can't give, something you can't feed me anymore.
I bet we believed nothing could change us.
Now our limbs have turned into shovels that even out the dirt.
I just like to think out loud. My ears are tired and mouth is sore from the life that you can't handle anymore.
If I could give you just one night I would make it last two seconds.
So come one, destroy me.
You say you eat hearts for breakfast, better cook up mine for it's the most important meal you will ever have.
Enjoy tonight because tomorrow I will force this straw deep into your throat and take back what once was mine.
I just finished chapter one of "it's not you, it's me."
In the song Breakfast of Champions by Comadre, the lyrics are intense and emotionally charged, speaking to the pain of heartbreak and the desire for revenge. The opening line, "I hope you choke on my fucking heartbeat and drown in my blue blood," sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer expresses a desire for vengeance and bitterness towards their former lover.
The song speaks to the loneliness and hunger that often accompanies heartbreak, with lines like "The lonely walks bring out the lonely eyes / The hunger dies because of the lies." The singer's stomach asks for something that their former lover cannot provide anymore, showing the lack of fulfillment that comes when a relationship ends.
Throughout the song, the singer's anger and resentment towards their former lover feels palpable as they express a desire to destroy them. However, the final line of the song, "I just finished chapter one of 'it's not you, it's me,'" shows a hint of self-awareness and reflection. The singer may be realizing that their bitterness and desire for revenge may be misplaced, and that they need to take responsibility for their part in the relationship's downfall.
