Come togheter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here come ol' flat top, he come groovin' up slowly
he's got joo joo eyeball, he one holy roller

he got hair down to his knees
Got to be a joker, he just do what he please
he wear no shoeshine, he's got toe jam football
he's got monkey finger, he shoot Coca-Cola
he say, "I know you, you know me
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free"

Come together right now
Over me
he bag production, he's got walrus gumbo
he's got Ono sideboard, he one spinal clacker
he's got feet down through his knees
Hold you in his arms till you can feel his disease

Come together right now

Over me
Come together baby
Come together baby
Come together
Come together
he roller coaster, he's got early warning
he's got muddy water, he one mojo filter

he say, "One and one and one is three"

Got to be good looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now
Over me
Come together baby, yeah baby
Filter, got a mojo
So come together

Just come together
Just come together
Muddy water, spinal clacker baby
Mojo filter early warning with a sideboard
A walrus, a walrus clacker
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah

Come together
Mojo woking, together, mojo filter

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Come Together" introduce a character, "Old Flat Top," who is making his way towards the listener, grooving slowly with an air of cool confidence and ease. The mention of his "joo joo eyeball" and being a "holy roller" suggest that he's not an average guy, as though he's mystical or religious. As the song progresses, it becomes clear that Old Flat Top is a free spirit who lives by his own rules - he doesn't wear shoes and shoots Coca-Cola with his monkey fingers. He tells the listener that they need to be free too. The chorus, "Come together right now, over me," is an invitation to join in this spirit of freedom and togetherness.

The lyrics later refer to Old Flat Top's specific accomplishments; "bag production," "walrus gumbo," "Ono sideboard," "spinal clacker," "mojo filter" are all somewhat nonsensical phrases, but perhaps allude to the creative genius of John Lennon who wrote the song. The chorus repeats, as if urging listeners again to join in this wild, free-wheeling life. The song builds to a chaotic climax with the repetition of the words "come together" over and over. Overall, the song seems to be a celebration of individuality and freedom, with the chorus inviting listeners to come together and celebrate those qualities.

No artist can come close to Michael, no one. Michael Jackson is on another level.

Edit:
1. Objectively, the original Come together will always be better cuz the Beatles carried out the whole creative process of the song.

2. I mean MJ as an artist was another level because he could compose, sing and dance to any kind of music and everything he did was a hit. Sorry if this upsets some people but it's a fact, not my opinion.

3. I didn't compare Michael to the Beatles. That can't be done. MJ was a solo artist and the Beatles were a band.

Relax.
