Hide the Word
Commissioned Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

are you bothered by temptation
that the tempter brings your way?
is the threat of losing fellowship
staring in your face?
failures from your yesterdays
come back to drain your faith
seems there's no one who can help you
and your falling from grace.

hey, its like your losing ground you've
fallen down again and will there ever be a day
that you can say 'I WIN'?

well the time is now and the day is today
you can finally say:
I've had enough of the bitter cup
I'm waking up realising there is power in god's word!

hide the word (hide it in my heart)
that I might not sin against Thee.

though you try to do your very best
it never works out right
every good thing you have longed for
seems so far out of sight.
and though your friends are all around you feel all alone (yes, you do)
and the prayers that you didn't pray
don't get you by so

hey, it's like you're losing ground you've
fallen down again and will there ever be a day
that you can say 'I WIN'?

well the time is now and the day is today
you can finally say:
I've had enough of the bitter cup
I'm waking up realising there is power in god's word!

hide the word (hide it in my heart)
that I might not sin against Thee.

when it looks like there can be no hope for you
and you're failing in all you say and do.
just remember there is power in God's word
you should listen to the things you've heard!

there are some things I don't understand
but through Your word I know I can
and if You'd just hide the word.....
that I might not sin against Thee

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, Thy word
Thy word is a light unto my path, Thy word

Overall Meaning

"Hide the Word" by Commissioned is a song that encourages believers to turn to the Word of God during times of temptation and struggle. The song begins by acknowledging the realities of temptation and failure. It asks if the listener is bothered by the tempter's tactics and if the threat of losing fellowship with God is staring them in the face. The song then acknowledges that past failures can drain one's faith and that it can feel like there is no one who can help. This feeling of falling from grace is a familiar struggle for many believers who have experienced temptation and sin.

The chorus of the song provides the solution to this struggle: hiding the word of God in our hearts. It encourages believers to memorize and internalize the Word of God so that they might not sin against Him. The song recognizes that trying our best is not enough to overcome temptation and that we need the power of God's Word in our lives. The bridge of the song reminds listeners that even when things feel hopeless, there is power in God's Word. It encourages believers to listen to what they have heard in Scripture, even when they don't fully understand it.

Overall, "Hide the Word" is a powerful reminder of the importance of Scripture in our daily lives. It acknowledges the realities of temptation and failure but provides a solution through the Word of God. The song encourages believers to hide the Word in their hearts so that they might not sin against God and find the power to overcome temptation.

Those were the times when the mouth-pieces of God preached the Word that sets ppl free from sin and connected them with the Spirit of God for victory over the flesh and the devil! The pulpit led the song writers and minstrels to sing these types of songs of the Word & Spirit. Sadly, what's being preached mostly everywhere is leading towards selfishness, greed, worldliness and perversions. Pray for our preachers and teachers ppl of God! Our psalmists will sing these songs again! Be encouraged!
