What Might Have Been
Connie Kaldor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There are paths you choose along the way
But don't you wonder "what might have been"
If you knew then what you know today
Don't you wonder "what might have been "
If you'd kissed that boy forever
If you hadn't lost the job in the café
If you'd gotten it together
Or if you had thrown it all away
All the lessons learned
All the fingers burned
All the troubles you got out of or got in
Don't you wonder sometimes " what might have been"
Do your sit sometimes and think about
Where you could be now.
If the twists were turns, if the ins were out
Where you could be now
If you'd hitchhiked out of town
If you hadn't had that extra gin
Settled for or settled down
If you hadn't listened to the little voice within
The loves that made you fall
The nights you wowed them all
The times you took it on the chin
Don't you wonder sometimes
What might have been.
But at the time you never see it
How all the doors get opened
You've make your choice you think you know the way
You discover later that the smallest thing can change it
Leading you to where you are today.
So when you're looking back
At luck or destiny
Remember each day is a new way to begin
Some day you'll be looking back here

And will you wonder?
What might have been

Overall Meaning

Connie Kaldor's song 'What Might Have Been' revolves around the theme of reflecting on the choices we make in life and the opportunities we miss out on. The opening lines suggest that everyone takes different paths in life based on the choices they make. However, Kaldor encourages the listener to think about the possibilities that might have unfolded if different choices were made. She asks the listener to think about their past decisions and what would have happened if they had taken a different path. She questions whether one wonders about the potential outcomes if they had kissed someone forever, not lost a job, or thrown everything away.

The lyrics also reflect on the different kinds of experiences one could have had, had they made different choices. Kaldor asks the listener to think of all the experiences they have had, both the good and bad ones, and how they have shaped them into the person they are today. She talks about times when someone may have been in love and has fallen, the nights they were the life of the party, and the times they faced challenges without giving up.

The song culminates with Kaldor reminding the listener that every day presents new opportunities to begin again. She encourages the listener to view each day as a new chance to start over and to not dwell on the past. She suggests that even the smallest decisions one makes can lead to big changes in the future. The overall message of the song is to embrace the journey of life, and to be grateful for the opportunities and experiences that come our way.

It's too bad she doesn't get bigger audiences,..her on stage live performances are really meant for large audiences with her sassy sense of humour and sensational voice ..I've been to two live sessions of hers and she puts on a terrific show !

The Time is Now is such a special song! It helped me through a heartbreaking separation and divorce, and starting out in a new community as a single mom. “There comes a time with everything when you can open up your heart and let it sing, and that time is NOW!!”❤❤

I am a nanny and I always play Ms. Kaldor’s “Dream Baby” and “Hush-a-bye” when putting baby boy down for a nap. Her voice is so soothing and almost magical. Always works for sleepy time! :)

Have you heard of the old grain elevator in Dawson Creek BC? It was re-modelled into an art gallery, gift shop, and place for people to do art ! Wouldn't it be awesome to have re-modelled arty grain elevators all across the prairies ?
