Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

The cleanest I've been
An end to the tears
And the in-between years
And the troubles I've seen
Now that I'm clean
You know what I mean
Put an end to it all
I've changed my routine
Now I'm clean
I don't understand
What destiny's planned
I'm starting to grasp
What is in my own hands
I don't claim to know
Where my holiness goes
I just know that I like
What is starting to show
Sometimes
Clean
The cleanest I've been
An end to the tears
And the in-between years
And the troubles I've seen
Now that I'm clean
You know what I mean
I've broken my fall
Put an end to it all
I've changed my routine
Now I'm clean
As years go by
All the feelings inside
Twist and they turn
As they ride with the tide
I don't advise
And I don't criticise
I just know what I like
With my own eyes
Sometimes
Clean
The cleanest I've been
An end to the tears
And the in-between years
And the troubles I've seen
Now that I'm clean
You know what I mean
I've broken my fall
Put an end to it all
I've changed my routine
Now I'm clean

"Clean" is a song by the American metalcore band, Converge. It was released in 2001 as part of their album "Jane Doe". The song is about a personal struggle with addiction, specifically a journey towards sobriety. The song describes the feeling of being the cleanest you have ever been after battling addiction, the end of tears, and the in-between years where drugs were part of their life. The troubles of drug addiction are said to be over now that the singer is clean. The lyrics describe the singer's newfound perspective on life and how they're starting to take control of their own destiny. The song suggests that sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom to find clarity and realize what is most important in life.
The chorus repeats the phrase 'clean' several times to emphasize the newfound sobriety. The song's slow and melodic pace is very different from the rest of the album's abrasive, heavy sound, which lends depth to the introspective subject matter. The lyrics are a reminder that sobriety is not easy; it is a difficult journey that requires effort and perseverance. The song's title "Clean" is a metaphor for the cathartic process of getting clean from drugs and maintaining sobriety.
