Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

Cutting teeth and breaking bread
Making moves and smearing friends
Your karma has been racking debts
Left your throne in foreclosed homes
Claimed that crown of decay
Built castle walls with blood and bone
Worms will feed
Saw you slither around their necks
Sinking teeth into their flesh
Spitting venom seeing red
You will fall where you lay your head
Rats will feast
The worms will find a way
The rats will find a way
The lyrics of Converge's song "Worms Will Feed/Rats Will Feast" delve into themes of greed, karma and how one's actions ultimately lead to their downfall. The first verse describes the singer's arrival and their actions, which are cutthroat and selfish, as they break bread and smear their friends for their own gain. However, their actions have consequences, and their karma has been building up debts that they will soon have to pay.
The second verse is where the imagery of worms and rats come into play. The singer leaves their throne in foreclosed homes and builds castle walls made of blood and bone in an attempt to shield themselves from the consequences of their actions. However, the worms will feed on their decaying remains, and the rats will feast on the scraps. The chorus reinforces this concept, where the worms and rats will find a way, indicating that even if the singer tries to run away from their karma, in the end, it will catch up to them.
In summary, "Worms Will Feed/Rats Will Feast" is a metaphorical expression of how our deeds catch up to us, and there's no escaping the consequences of our actions.
