Hold On
Corey Hart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I am lost and hope begins to fade
Love, timeless and true
Whenever I need strength I look to you

Tonight, my faith is strong enough
To see me through
Tonight he's gotta trust in love the way I do
We gotta hold on tight, tonight

Hold on, nothing's gonna stop us
If we just believe in love
Hold on, there's nothing under heaven
We can't overcome, hold on

Now I see a way
How the tide will turn and the part I'll play
It's all part of a plan
You don't have to know or understand

Tonight, I'll see it all unfold before my eyes
Tonight, with fortune on our side
And love to guide me
The future is looking bright, tonight

Hold on, nothing's gonna stop us
If we just believe in love
Hold on, there's nothing under heaven
We can't overcome, hold on

And though the road ahead maybe unknown
We'll make it if we hold on

When I am lost and hope begins to fade
Love, timeless and true

Overall Meaning

In Corey Hart's song "Hold On," the lyrics describe the power of faith and love in helping us persevere through difficult times. The song's opening lines set an emotional tone, as the singer admits to feeling lost and close to despair. However, they find solace in the idea of "timeless and true" love and turn to their loved one for strength. The song then shifts to a more optimistic tone, as the singer proclaims their belief that they can overcome any obstacle as long as they hold on tight to love.

The chorus reinforces this message of perseverance and love. The title phrase, "hold on," is repeated several times in the chorus, emphasizing the importance of staying strong and not giving up. The lyrics suggest that if we believe in love and have faith in our future, we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.

Towards the end of the song, the singer acknowledges that the road ahead may be uncertain, but they express confidence that they can make it through any difficulty as long as they hold on. In this way, "Hold On" is a powerful anthem of hope and perseverance that encourages listeners to have faith in themselves and their loved ones.

A correction: the song was released on Hart's 1986 LP Fields of Fire, not 1990's Bang. Hart is also known for writing his own material, not co-writing his material, especially early in his career. He wrote Blind Faith solely. Lastly, Blind Faith was not released as a single and had no music video. Not sure where the facts are coming from, but really facts.
