Caruso
Cosimo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Aquí donde brilla el mar
Y sopla fuerte el viento
En una vieja terraza
Delante del golfo de sorriento
Un hombre abraza una mujer
Sin contener su llanto
Se aclara la voz
Y comienza el canto
Te voglio bene assaje
Ma tanto tanto bene assaje
È una catena ormai
Che scioglie ó sangue dint′ 'e ′vvene
Vio las luces en el mar
Pensó en las noches allá, en América
Pero eran solo lamparas
Y la blanca estela de una helice
Sintió el dolor en la música
Y se levantó del piano
Pero cuando vio aparecer la luna
Le pareció más dulce la muerte
Miró a los ojos de la mujer
Tan verdes como el mar
De repente salió una lágrima
Y pensó en ahogar
Te voglio bene assaje
Ma tanto tanto bene assaje
È una catena ormai
Che scioglie ó sangue dint' 'e ′vvene
El poder de la lírica
Donde cada drama es falso
Y con un poco de truco y con la mimica
Puedes convertirte en otro
Pero dos ojos que te miran
Tan cerca y tan real
Te hacen olvidar las palabras
Y confunden tus pensamientos
Te voglio bene assaje
Ma tanto tanto bene assaje

È una catena ormai
Che scioglie ó sangue dint′ 'e ′vvene

Overall Meaning

In Cosimo's song "Caruso," the lyrics depict a poignant moment between a man and a woman on an old terrace overlooking the Gulf of Sorrento, where the sea shines and the wind blows fiercely. The man holds the woman, unable to hold back his tears, and as his voice clears, he begins to sing. He expresses his deep love for her, so much so that it is now a chain that runs through his veins. He sees lights in the sea, reminiscent of nights in America, but realizes they are just lamps and the white trail of a propeller. The music brings him pain, and he stands up from the piano. However, when he sees the moon appear, death seems sweeter. He looks into the woman's eyes, as green as the sea, and a tear falls, causing him to contemplate drowning himself. The power of lyrics is emphasized, where every drama feels fake, but with a little trickery and mimicry, one can transform oneself into someone else. Yet, when two eyes look at you so closely and authentically, they make you forget words and confuse your thoughts.
