Wintersong
Country Radio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

North wind rolling down my friends are leaving town
I know they're waiting just for me
One more summer gone and one more wintersong
And one more time I've tried to leave
Maybe it's the lonesome way you turn your head and smile
Each time the snow begins to fall
Maybe it's the fact that you're around me all the while
That keeps me going through it all
If I could make you see I'm not the man you need
I just don't make the staying kind

Then like the songbird flies we'd go my songs and I
Instead of staying one more time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Country Radio's song "Wintersong" speak of a change in seasons and the departure of friends, signaling the approach of winter. The singer longs to leave as well, as this is not the first time they've tried to do so. Yet despite their desire to leave, there is a lonesome quality to their surroundings and a woman who is always present. Perhaps it's the way she smiles when the snow begins to fall, or the fact that she is always around, that makes the singer stay despite their restlessness. However, they know deep down that they are not the man she needs and they are not cut out for staying in one place. In the end, the singer dreams of taking flight like a bird and going on to new adventures with their music.

The lyrics to "Wintersong" evoke a sense of restlessness and a desire for change, while also acknowledging the beauty of the winter season and the pull of relationships. The singer is torn between their longing for new experiences and the pull of the familiar. The idea of leaving behind loved ones and a familiar place is difficult, but the desire to explore and see more of the world is strong.

What a great band and what a wonderful time we all had in Melbourne

@johnmitchelljr

Interesting how an artist can find a music that speaks to him and make it his own. Thanks for sharing.

Still brings those memories bubbling to the surface - just perfect music, so underated.

I have a damaged copy of Country Radio live ,,I regard this as one of the best albums ,as i still call them i have heard . I used to drive my '63 Falcon to Anga and surf . This is what i listened to..

Greg Quill. Lovely fella. And his solo album "The Outlaw's Reply" is one of the long forgotten greats. Peace, Greg. AK

Thanks indeed for posting this...one of my favourite songs & bands from the 1970s. Sadly my four Greg Quill lps fell victim to the Charlton 2011 Flood but the 45s survived. Aztec Music has gone out of business so it's unlikely any of Country Radio's stuff will be re-issued any time soon,which is a shame. They were one of a kind & nice blokes to boot.

This video is so old but it's a treasure. I was a kid when I first hear this song on dad's 45 disc.

Brilliant stuff, good old fashioned melancholy

@swanstoon

I heard from someone that Greg Quill gave a whole bunch of his tapes,etc to Aztec Music when he was here last year. I hope the 'live' album with Radio Rag as a bonus track is re-issued. Great band,great bunch of blokes. Thanks for posting these classic recordings.
